G'day All,

First post after a lazy 10 yrs livin O'seas.

Professional sport is professional sport!

I am at a total loss to understand the physical being that Big Red has let himself become. After moving back home at Xmas and witnessing the Wizzer, it was as clear as day to me that Larnce is one of the most talented players running about the AFL. The guy ran about the park like 1AW setting new age records for the 400m. He must have been 10kg's lighter in March than he is now. Unfortunately, his insatiable desire for pizzas and donuts has seen him degenerate into nothing more than a laughing stock (again). Seriously, he is the Aussie, male version of Oprah Winfey. It is blatantly clear that he is one the primary reasons we are shite this yr. No CHF target = NO DP gameplan.

It breaks my heart to see one so someone so crucial to the club I love give it all up because he is unable to control what he sticks in his mouth!

The useless, bloodnut cancer must go. Trade him so the club can move forward.

4 yrs of an ill disciplined eating is enough!

Covering old ground I know, but Jeez it pisses me off

10 years overseas or 10 years in an asylum? Probably doesn't make much difference from the sounds of the above.

Did you perhaps spend 10 years on Mars?

Its OK Jenx, if some of the people around here are not fed with a win every so often, they turn nasty.
The fact of the matter is that over the last three or four years, when leadershp is needed, we have been sadly let down. We have been let by the senior players at the club including Lance and Campo who give nothing to the newer guys at the club, we have been let down by the Beaumonts, Allens and Murphys who thought they were more important than the club and we have been let down by some of the guys who we think have real potential who think that it is simply enough to get a game.

Marvellous contributor over the last few years?

The last time he was consistent was 1999-2001, since then it's been downhill...

I'm with Clem..apart from a Cameo in the wizzer cup has been a passenger for a long while and the gravy train ride is over. I took the sentimental view with Lance being a father/son choice for a while but not anymore. My view is now we can invest 500K a year in something more consistent ...we dont need the nagging doubts over Lance every pre season with his weight, fat farms etc...the members/fans deserve better value for their hard earned money and as far as I am concerned we cut our losses and trade/delist him so both parties can move on..

You watch, when he plays well, there will be a (how good is lance thread), If Red does his best, thats all we can ask, he has had to play all over the field this yr, which isnt easy for a guy has spent so much time in the forward line in the past, and he has been good.

I think that for many Carlton supporters their attitude to Lance closely mirrors his ability to keep his weight under control, which also seems to have a major correlation with the mobility he then displays, and his performance, on the field.

I guess there is a feeling that his self control, or lack there of, when it comes to food/drink and keeping his weight down somehow reflect his commitment and attitude to his profession, i.e. playing for our beloved Blues.

I certainly understand this frustration as a great deal of our future success, this year at least, is going to depend on Lance's performance.

I must have missed something. When did Lance gain these 10kg since March? Is this fact? Do you have something to back that up?

Silly me thought that his poor form this season was because sides aren't giving him (and Fev) the space that he enjoyed in the Wizard Cup and our midfield aren't allowed to free wheel the way they did so disposal into our forward 50 has been poor.

That and our game plan! But if you say he has put on 10kg. Well fair enough!

ok,

maybe not 10kg's but there is an obvious difference in his physical appearance from Feb this yr and now. This is undeniable

He's useless trade him and Campo should be dropped for a bloke that is averaging a kick a game.

Tongue out of your cheek and all jokes aside what would you do with him BM...continue paying him 500K a year minus his Crocky Park fun money.
How can anyone justify keeping him based on his output.....Brown is signing for 500K a year..based on that Lance would be on rookie money in comparison if you are talking in terms of Campo vs Simpson( I presume) and Kade's one kick average....Brown had the lazy 27 possies, 12 marks and 5 goals in a losing size....

If you are going to argue Campo v Simpson and output which is fair enough then surely you have to apply the same rules to Lance and make fair comparisons..

Before (2004)
http://cache.gettyimages.com/comp/51158 ... 8A2F49A070

During (Wiz Cup)
http://cache.gettyimages.com/comp/52378 ... BCABBD3585
and
after
http://cache.gettyimages.com/comp/52960 ... 5E40866DD7

Gee not a huge difference ....even though he is looking'better' than 2004.

Agree he's played all over the place and varied roles also which doesn't help how to assess him.

compare with

Before

and after

Actu  ally both are very scary

cheers for those images billc3.

you don't happen to have a front profile from the wizard cup because i reckon his face looks decidedly podgier now than then.

whatever... my point being is he appears to have lost mobility

All I know is this,

If a recriuter came up to you and said Heres a bloke that will play 150plus games for you and kick over 300 goals. Would you take him or leave him?

As for the contract I didn't hear anyone bitch at the time we signed it, hell most were congratulating ourselves about how smart we were. So I ignore the bitching now

If the truth be known I wasn't happy with any of the contracts back then. But instead of ripping into the players involved I prefer to look at the real culprits in the previous regime who entered into what were clearly not thought through contracts.

The current administration will of course be far more circumspect in the drawing up of any new contracts.

Just touching on that, I wonder if weight clauses are legal, or could they be deemed discrimination under common law?

If Lance was to be kept on our list, it would seem that a performance based contract would be the way to go...

BM,

agree with your sentiments re: previous admin and contracts but Lance's apparent drop in mobility in a matter of a few months is due to one thing alone and that is his weight.

can't he do those extra tyre dragging sessions with his old man on non-training nights?

What was his weight pre-season and what is it now? People are saying he is overweight and somebody has claimed that he is way over 100kg. And yet no one has been able to prove that he is. Looking at him on the ground he is not looking to be overweight, in fact he is as slim as I have seen him.

While I would be the first to admit that on Sunday he was beaten by his oppoent, he has been in fact quite good in most of the other games. Often playing up back and up front when needed. Could he be better? Undoubtedly, but then so could the rest of the team.

There is one interesting aspect to his game on Sunday, he was finally getting paid the frees that have been previously ignored.

Your wish is my command

Actually looks pretty much the same this year...if anything he looks older and "arguably" a bit slimmer
