Geez Synbad knows how to put a downer on any positive coming out of the club at the moment. I thought his game for the Bullants on the TV last week was very good, & today, he was very close to outstanding.

OK Synbad, I'll bite...

what's with the 2k stuff?

I'd guess it's either:

(a) A reference to the measly money he's playing for in relation to, well let's just say, 'other' players

or

(b) A suggestion that Bryan isn't set for a long-term AFL career, but just a few nice (for a young bloke) paydays.

Close?

Under the AFL Collective Bargaining Agreement Bryan is entitled to $2,200 for each senior game he plays this year (on top of his base payment), there are also bonuses connected to number of games played in a players first season as well.

Perhaps it's Woodward/Bernstein being back in the news and I'm getting all investigative, but I"m curious.

Hes paying off a mortgage.... 2 k goes along way after being in the VFL for a few years... just trying to get him all motivated ....

Look.. for a guy who has a few tricks up his sleeve (esp his kick)but really needs to knuckle down in a few areas of his development.. its important for Bryan at his age to realise these opportunities wont come every day.


Bryan hasnt made out of football any real money...at his age opportunities are usually not handed out.
I just hope he can smell blood and go for it hard.

Id love to think Norman has something that motivates him too..

No Bryan will never see the huge money. At the moment he is a week by week proposition in his professional sporting career.
What he did today went a long way to him being part of what we all hope will happen (premiership to this generation of players)
We need a Bryan to make it...
2k a week is alot of money for the Bryans on anyones list.
Hopefully it becomes alot more for him ...

Kids dont think about $$$... but a 23 year old recruit who is paying off a mortgage and has to put whatever he is doing on HOLD.. would think about it..
Sometimes the 35k a draftee makes for a year is less than what he was making before.... just for the dream of playing footy...doesnt mean he will make it.. or even survive the end of season cull.. but its a sacrifice.
Good luck to him for taking that dream and sacrificing to achieve it.

It's funny isn't it? When you think of a guy like Campo perhaps having to 'slum it' on 200k plus incentives as his career winds down, it doesn't sound like a lot.

But when you think of a guy like Bryan getting a 2k kick in his back pocket for a Saturday afternoon's work, you think 'gee, that's not too bad'.

Just goes to show how bloated and unrealistic the money is in professional sport, and how conditioned we are to these guys earning big bucks.

Imagine having a job where you only had to work 4 to 5 hours a day and got paid 200k +

Gee, life would be pretty good wouldn't it?

Oh, but of course they have to earn huge money because the job only lasts a few years and they can't do anything else while they're playing footy because it's all-encompassing...

So that's why the majority of players also have time to study, or play property developers, or run clothing labels or juice bars...

Whoops, got sidetracked there.

He is a tradie.. forgot what kind.... he is settled with a partner and has financial commitments.
At his age with his commitments a full time AFL list can cost him, not make him dosh.If he isnt playing and doesnt stay on the list...

I think people forget that...

John there are guys on lists that never see the real money but still have to train as hard, play as hard and get injured as hard.

I think for a kid its a dream..and its great!
When it happens to a 23 year old you just know with some of them its a fantastic opportunity.. they can go on a list.. do a knee.. get the flick... and all for 34k.. they might still have a mortage to pay off.. and they might have lost some goodwill in their business.
Still they got to train with Campo is suppose....

Bryan reminds me of what footy player used to be like: real people like you and me who had jobs. It's just that they were also really really good at playing footy. They were newsagents and plumbers and they were us, really. The best kind of hero.

Footy's more fun with guys like Bryan running around. All these slick products of the TAC Cup being fed into the machine... it's just so... modern.

It's a great story and let's hope its not a short story.
He's been knocked back but kept trying, I think the kid is going to be a good player long term, and frankly I'd pay me money to see honest footballers rather than overpaid divas doing the business.

my point exactly....there is no point of trying this season...because we will only finish 11-13th....and as DP said....we didnt get the best of talent last year....i think it could be a message....he knows we need to bottom out....he practically said it in the last line...
