If and when Campo does sign again, wont he be listed as a veteran??
If so is there any real difference if he gets 200K or 300K since only half that amount will affect our TPP?
Or do i, as usual, have all the facts completely wrong yet again?

He has to stay a veteran for as long as he remains at the club. There is no one else likely to be eligible for several years. I think Lance will be the next one eligible in 2009 but I don't know that it's terribly likely he will still be at the club at 30. So whatever he gets paid only 1/2 will go onto the TPP.

Campo is ranked 4th by Prostats http://www.prowess.com.au/pro-stats/ or 3rd on game average (possessions, scoring, 1%ers).

Rankings to round 10:

1. Kouta 588 (16th in AFL)
2. Stevens 586 (17th)
3. Lappin 554
4. Campo 507
5. Houla 488
6. French 458
7. Waite 437
8. Teague, Whitnall 399
10. Fev 381

Synbad i dont get it.

You go on and on about campo getting easy kicks and how he takes the soft option then in the next breath you want seem to want us to lose so we can get early draft picks. Soft option.
Synbad = Campo.

Synbad I think its time that you did a Wiggins and start sleeping in the jumper.

I remember a few years ago we had a player in his twilight years. There was much debate. "Should he go on?", "Is he worth the money?", "Can he be the player he was?"

The answers were "No", "No" and "No".

It's hard to watch a player you once loved, a player who once could turn a game, take a game and make it his own. But sadly, this day does come eventually. For everyone. Even champions.

Our player was named Peter Daicos. Yours? Campo.

Hardly in the same league, but just as embarassing to watch.

Give it up Scotty. It's time to go.

All I ask is for Campo to stop playing like an Essendon* player, ie putting more energy into staging for frees and appealling to umpires than getting the ball/looking after your man.

I reckon he's gotten heaps worse this year in that regard.

campo has broken the carlton tradition of premiership players showing the way to the rookies.

when campo came to carlton as a skinny, pacy rookie from SA he found a wonderful environment to develop. he became a good outrider feeding of the rattens, browns etc ... nothing wrong with that. in 2000 he was outstanding as a indefatigable outside midfielder.

then, somehow, someone decided to pay him as a gun match-winning midfielder ... which he has proved NOT to be!!

last year he was turned into a run-with player, just like bradley in 95. why has he suddenly become a non-accountable midfielder again?

now that it's his turn to lead the way for the yuggins .... guess what? ... it's all about him!! that's why i have a problem with him!!

From 1995 to 1997 Camporeale was in a midfield with Kouta, Bradley, Brown, Ratten and Williams. He only averaged 16 posession a game, Kouta 20, Ratten 23, Brown 21, Bradley 25 and Williams 21. (Total average posessions: 110 per game)

Williams retired at the end of 1997.

The midfield dropped from the "sensational six" to the "fantastic five" from 1998 to 2000. Camporeale averaged 24, Kouta 21, Ratten 26 Bradley 23 and Brown 21. (Total average posessions: 115 per game)

Brown retired at the end of 2000.

The midfield dropped from the "fantastic five" to the "fabulous four" from 2001 to 2003 (though Bradley dropped out at the end of 2002 making it the "terrific trio"). Camporeale averaged 21, Kouta 21, Ratten 23 and Bradley 22. (Total average posessions: 87 per game)

Stevens replaced Ratten in the "terrific trio" in 2004. Camporeale averages 21, Kouta 18 and Stevens 24 under this new regime. (Total average posessions: 63 per game).

So over 10 years we have gone from 6 premiere midfilders down to 5 down to 4 down to 3. Where our midfielders between them were getting the ball 110-115 times a games back when we had "the guts of a midfield" now we have three midfielders getting the all only 63 times a game with the "others" trying to make up the 47-52 shortfall.

So did Camporeale not benefit at all from Williams being in the midfield? Or did he only benefit from Brown being in the midfield? His best period was from 1998 to 2000 when Williams had gone, and once Brown went, Camporeale dropped off. But Camporeale's best year was 2000 when Brown only played 10 games, so it was only Campo, Ratten, Kouta and Bradley for more than half that year in the midfield.

Clearly, for too long now, too few have been doing too much. We should have at least five top line midfileders. We have been struggling with three for too long now.

Why is it about statistics and not effect?

Centre, Ruck Rover, Rover, Wing, Wing, Resting Forward Pocket = 6

We have 3.

Effect = 3/6 = half effective.

Simple.

Interestingly enough, he is one of many failed replacements for Ratten, Brown and Williams. The list is very long.

That long list includes Campo...

Campo's opponent for much of the game, especially in the first half was Ben Matthews before he moved onto Bolton in the second half...Bolton actually had a few different opponents at various stages but beat them all, not just Campo..
