Only got a chance too see the game on the box in dribs and drabs.

Will watch the game on Foxtel during the week, so I can bring you

Keeping the Faith - Part 3 next Saturday.

But can someone give me a better insight (if you were at the game) with Betts's movements during the game.

That is - game time, position etc.

It appears to me the last two weeks he has had a mid field forward role and just wanted another set of eyes too fill me in more.

Last year we said Kenna was too small too play there, but brief glimpses have shown me the Steady Eddie's pace and skill prove you can.

Eddie started on the wing and even was a starter in the 4 at times. The Swans played him very close, as they do on each midfield appointment. The great thing about Eddie is that each time he's dangerous, if the Swan wasn't on his game Eddie would have had a few more touches.

Eddie had a lot of game time to my recollection, and played wing / FP in the second half. At times I think he played too far up the ground, as our forwards were creating a lot of spillage, but with a midfield 'squash' with flooding taking place the plan may have been for him to get the sillage up the ground and run it in.

Yeh, he was super...
One kick (a goal)
Three handballs

We need some real footballers in our side; not guys who may kick a spectacular goal every once in a while

I think that Eddie will be an important part of a future Carlton side that is a finals prospect.

We will need someone to crumb any loose balls that manage to evade Fev, Setanta and Waite.

Eddie Betts. Forward pocket or nowhere.

He aint a midfielder or a winger or a flanker or a back pocket player.

the best thing about the 3AW call yesterday happened just before the start of the final term....
this is what the commentator said...

"Beware, Eddie Betts".......

Agreed tekno. Make him our crumbing specialist. Tell him that's all we need him to do is kick his 1-2 goals a game, creat oppurtunities and chase/ tackle hard.

If we really need him. A quick short spurt in the guts to put sides of guard like we did to Adelaide in the start of the 1st quarter.

It's about time someone said it. I thought Richmond were the only flower that turned brilliant forward pockets into shithouse midfielders (Nick Daffy).

I don't care if he doesn't get a kick all day, as long as he is front and square at every marking contest in the forward 50 I'll be happy.

Very unfair with the "shithouse midfielder" call. He's in his first season, give the kid a break. If you get along to training & watch him work, you'll see he has a very special talent - give him a couple of preseasons to work on his aerobic capacity & add 10kg of muscle & we might just have the next Byron Pickett on our hands.

Yes, he's hot & cold at the moment but let's reserve the criticism for players who've been in the system for a few years. If all you see is Eddie on TV, you really are missing out on so much & with all due respect, you aren't qualified to state that he'll only ever be a Forward Pocket.

He should end up with more than 20 goals, which is quite good for a small forward. If he can get up into the 40+ range in a couple of years then it would be supreme.

Shithouse midfielder wasn't aimed at Eddie, was aimed at the trend of taking someone out of the position they excel at to put them in a position where they struggle (read: Adrian De Luca). What would you rather: Eddie king 50-60 goals a year (which I reckon he's capable of) or becoming a 15-20 possession midfield rotation? I know which I'd have. Since when did horses for courses become unfashionable?

Thanks for the get along to training tip too - bit difficult from my locale.

I seriously believe he'll become a gun rover so long as he develops the aerobic capacity. Wasn't suggesting you travel 1000km to get to training, more suggesting that it's inappropriate to "closet" a 10 game 18yo as a lifetime forward pocket without knowing his full potential.

I agree that most of Eddie's career will be played deep in the forward line. But you've got to develop him in another position if you can. Forward pocket and half forward flank can be starvation corner. If it's not working for him, he needs another way of getting into the game.

Besides, we're hardly flush with talented midfielders!

And 50-60 goal per year 173cm career forward pockets do not happen - if he cannot add extra strings to his bow, his career will be overfaster than it started. Pagan knows this, hence the education process continues.

There's a 50-60 goal per year 171cm career forward pocket at West Coast. :D

Eddie will be a midfielder when his aerobic capacity is up.
Give me a break "we need footballers.. blah blah blah..."

Hes probably one of the most natural footballers at the club but excuse him for being 18.. and missing just about the whole season last year.

Bingo.

I have no issue with Eddie wandering up to the midfield every so often, but he should be primarily a forward pocket. We've been screaming for a zippy forward pocket that can crumd like mad and has wicked goal sense.

Now that we have one we want to move him out of the forward 50.

Sorry boys,
Players that are strictly crumbing forward pockets dont usually last.
You need more feathers in your cap these days...

Its guys like Eddie Betts that make our game so great - you can just see the intensity rise every time he gets near the ball . I dont care if he has his bad days or even weeks . It because of blokes like him and Fev and others that have that something special about them that you watch the game. No one wants a team full of Brett kirks. Give the kid a break and I really hope Denis Pagan persist with him
