So are you that are defending the umps decision going to point out the five times per game (at least) when it isn't called?

Regardless of the wording of the rule, this decision is normally only made when the foot is clearly outside the square. If Bryans foot was clearly outside the square, then I'm 80's one hit wonder Collette.

I try not to make a habit of whinging about umpiring decisions, but if they're gunna call all kick-ins as they did Bears, then we'll have a shitload more ball ups at the top of the square.

As a habit I look at every single kick in in every game, and it happens a lot less often than you think. Sometimes mistakes happen, you'll remember Campo ran out of the square totally the other year and it was let go

So you're suggesting that Bryans was out of the ordinary?

Would happen five to ten times per game easily.

maybe it was a square-up from when Campo made the ump look like a massive tool when he just strolled out of the square and ran 20m before passing off (against Adelaide 2003(?) at AAMI)....

I think they should change the rule to behind the line of the stumps. The popping crease is too hard for umpires to call while watching out for LBWs as well. This would give them extra time.

I also heard that Chris Bryan is a chucker.

How on earth did you say it first? Check out all the threads from the game - well before your post!

we said it first becuase we got a heap of people doing it at the ground first.

yes myself and several others of the TC crew where the lound mouth bastards that had starting doing it from his very first kick and then those around us started to do it, then those around them, then more, and more, and more and more.

Prez, mate you're miles behind. We said it first in January!

The one big problem for Chris is the absence of any real nickname. Wiggler has labelled him Big Bear, and everyone calls him Chrissie (although we aren’t sure what he’s got in common with the Pretenders)… but neither really works.

Our suggestion, which we trust shall be used from this point on: Larry Emdur. Unfortunately, the decision could be taken out of our hands – another plus for Chris is his massive left foot kicking. Perhaps we have found the new “Woofâ€

Back in 1990 I saw a few kids playing kick to kick, one of them had this booming left foot boot. The ball was kicked towards me at one stage, I picked it up and passed it back to that kid, I yelled out "If you play for Carlton son, one day you will be given the 'Woof' call from the crowd". The other kids laughed, one of them teasingly said, "Chris Bryan! Play for Carlton! Sure Mister".

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I can't be bothered reading through 4 pages to find out....

1) Billy Brownless mentioned on the Footy Show yesterday morning that the WOOF reverberated around Telstra Dome.

2) The WOOF also got a mention in Sunday's Herald-Sun in a small write up about Chris Bryan's first game.

Well done fellas. Keep on WOOFING.

Against Collingwood in 2003 from memory.
Same thing happened at Manuka yesterday, player took 3 steps over the line before kicking, no ball-up.

Hey, I was the first one to say 'THEY HAVE BEEN DOING IT ALL DAY' when the umpires give their first free kick against us.

Back on topic, anyone reckon Bryan should also inherit his nickname from the previous wearer of number 27?

Pup!

It goes with the woof, and matches the daft Aussie sense of uma of giving opposite nicknames ... he's big, but he's called Pup. :D

Yeah, it was a crap decision.

And what really got up my goat, was after it happened, Bryan was "dropped" from kick-in duties for a while.

And what did Stevens do with the kick??? He popped it up on the 50 metre line so that it could be picked off by Ball???(i think i can't remeber exactly who)
We looked so good going long from the kick ins i think they should have a look at how Essendon* do it when fletch goes to the centre square when he kicks out i think it was against us they cleared our zone and within about 20 seconds had a goal in the bag.

Well done Chris, great kick and a great game.

I loved it when Fullmont (Clint) went up to him to have the TC 'boys' picture taken in the SK Room and he said 'I started the Woof today at the ground' He was so happy and excited and Chris was pretty as well.

God love ya Clint!

:)
