Thought I would have a look at the players who have managed 20+ possessions for the Blues so far this year.

Names and number of games with 20+ possies this year

Stevens 8
Kouta 7
Campo 6
Houlihan 5
Scotland 4
Lappin 3
Johnson 2
Carrazzo 2
Whitnall 1
Bryan 1
McGrath 1

What is interesting about this list is not who is on it, but rather who is NOT on it.

Only 2 new member of the 20+ club, Carrazzo and Bryan.

Is it lack of opportunity, waxing, or something else preventing new players stepping up?

Would you ever want your Full Back to have a 20+ possie game?

Its a blight on our team that poor Jarrad Waite is leading our marks by a long way.

Western Bulldogs have the least amount of contested marks this season (according to commentators on the weekend).

They're a bit more competitive than us at the minute...

So are you suggesting we should "overpossess" the ball?

I'm with 7dom. Show me the stats that mean something. At the moment we can't take a contested anything.

We play such a different style of game from other teams I thought it might not say much. (Or even less than I usually do ;) )

If you look at the list of the top NRS players this year quite a few of them have had at least one 20+ possie games this year.

http://www.footywire.com/fw/web/ft_play ... ings?rt=RT

We have not had one. (Simmo got close though)

Just on contested marks it is not always about taking the thing but CONTESTING!

Holding your feet, bringing it to gound and not being pushed under the thing!

Want a reason why we struggle....start here!.....

Our youngsters dont get enough of the ball and after 5 seasons nearly..17 touches for Sporn and Wiggins as a game high isnt good enough.
Would I want Livo getting the ball 20 times at FB...probably not but it would be nice to see him get a lot of the ball at least once a season and show us he can be a bit more attacking at times...maybe give him some more confidence as well and scope to play other roles...

I agree on the contested marks...but its been a weakness for years....

Andrew McLeod
Round 10 vs Carlton

Kicks 5
Handballs 9
Marks 2
Goals 0
Frees For 0

I reckon they meant something. Walker never threatened 20 touches that day but I reckon it was as good a sign as we've seen that he'll be very very good. A better game than his debut where he got 26 touches. When he can do both he'll be extremely a star.

That said, I take your point about the lack of young midfield stars. :(

Agreed, I reckon AW TTC in that game.

Expecting a couple of 20+ from him before the year is out as well.
