Speaking of things bad, was really disappointed by a couple of Lappin's `efforts'.
There was an instance - second quarter I think - when Kennelly drifted to a flank at a bounce on their half-forward line and Stevens was yelling for someone to pick him up. Lappin made half an effort, but was still metres off him and, guess what, Sydney won the ball and it was kicked to Kennelly.
I'm a fan of Lappin but he came up short in a few other contests as well. He mightn't be fully fit but that doesn't stop you having a dip all the time.
It's been a tough year for the boy.

He was sent to the bench a fair bit.

David Teague is having a dirty old year compared to last year and I am wondering (apart from the fact he has been asked to take on opponents that he is not suited to ) is he carrying an injury or is it just a complete lack of confidence as he is not the shadow of the player he was last year.

Teague gets exposed when there is little pressure exerted on the opposition midfield. He has bags of courage, but most weeks is pitted against someone either 6" taller, or a yard or two quicker.

Which is just about everyone, isn't it, Wojee?

Good contributor, Teague. Certainly suffering due to lack of midfield pressure. But is always going to struggle to find a match-up that suits him.

If a player is taken off for a few minutes so Pagan can get on the phone to them I don't see it as a problem. When they're dragged and kept off for the rest of the game I start to get a little concerned with the decision.

Pagan did not get on the blower to Livo after this, i too was surprised to see him taken off as he had done Ok in my book.

Well picked up Kenny.
Our mind set is just not right at the moment and would love to know what Pagan is doing about it.

Gerryattric, you brought up some interesting points.

The fact is that our defence is under seige and we need a LEADER down there to take some of the heat off the main defenders.

When I say leader I mean a player that has played over 100 games.

Now Lappin is a leader and so is Kouta. I think Kouta's best position is in the midfield... but due to injury? he contributed little on the weekend in the midfield. The answer is to put him or another experienced player in defence.

I think we don't have any player with over 100 games regularly in defence. That should change. What about Campo only in the backline?
and rarely playing in the midfield

Carazzo, Livingston, McGrath, Thornton make up the back four with changes to the other two posies needed.

I think it was great to see Bryan slipping back into defence and taking kick-outs. It reminds me of something Patton used to say about being audacious. Audacity in action- there is no retreat... etc.

We could do well to follow the lessons of Patton as a general.

I think it was Patton who said "Do not take counsel of your fears!". Attack, confidence, risk taking.. that is what is needed in defence.

Agree I thought Livo had done well on O'Loughlin beaten on 1 contest and off? Still can't work out why Walker was taken off James Kelly after getting 5 disposals in the 1st quarter against the Cats then being thrown to the wolves against Ablett then the bench for 2 quarters.
