PJ I have on my wall a limited edition 300 game jumper signed by SOS and guess what ........

It has long sleeves

So jealous right now.

just watched the wrap on fox footy about sos. I didn't realise how much spring SOS had when he was just a kid.

I was there at the G when he took that towering mark over Craig Starcevich. Best mark I've ever seen live (and that's counting the Ablett mark against Collingwood). He got up that high and Starcevich wasn't a short man either (about 6'5''), I remember fearing for his safety when he landed.

Played during a golden era of elite forwards - Dunstall, Lockett, Ablett, Carey, Rocca, Lloyd- and beat them all on a regular basis (with only Plugger coming anywhere near close to troubling him on a head-to-head basis). Had the rare ability to beat opponents short or tall. In 300-plus games, probably lowered his colours only a dozen times (if that)!!

Versatile. Inspirational.
Had an aura and presence every time he graced the field.
A team player in every way. Made his fellow defenders look good.
Great Leader.
Bled for the club not just in every game but in every single contest he was involved in.
The best Spoiler and Smotherer I've ever seen.
Absolutely earnt the respect of everyone that played with him and against him.

My favourite all time player by a mile. Congrats SOS!! A once in a lifteime player. A true Legend in every way. I was so priveleged to watch this bloke play in the Navy Blue!!! :D :D :D :D :D

As a defender conceded only 1 goal during the 1995 Finals Series against the following:

- Qualifying Final -v- Brisbane - Daryl White (1 goal)

- Preliminary Final -v- North - Wayne Carey (0 goals)

- Grand Final -v- Geelong - Gary Ablett (0 goals)

To concede 0 goals against fellow Hall of Famers (Carey will be one eventually) in consecutive weeks in a Final Series was a sensational effort.

And how many of you fellow Carltonphiles underestimate Wayne Carey's status as a player because you never saw him at his best because he nearly always lowered his colours to SOS.

That was an awasome performace, and unlikely to be seen again. Surely that alone qualifies him for legend status

Great news, it's easy to get down thinking about our more current circumstances but remembering Sos and seeing him honored in this way reminds me of the better times.

Sos was a once in a generation player; a great person to have involved at the club in any role and a credit to his family.

It's hard not to think about his kids these days so lets hope in another 20 years or so we're celebrating the acheivements of the Silvagni progeny all over again.

Certainly one of the reasons why I have trouble rating Carey as the best CHF ever like many people do. I always rate players on how I see them play, not what Mike Sheehan says about them. Sure he was a better player that SOS allowed him to play, but we never saw his best.

Just on that finals series, many peopel would say well Darryl White, big deal, but White played great football as a forward in the latter part of that season. The fact we elected to play SOS on him rather than Merrett is testimony to how well he was playing.

If memory serves me correctly he played that finals series with a shoulder injury that prevented him lifting his right arm above his head.

A champion in every sense of the word. Carlton has not been the same since he retired. Hopefully the three boys will fix that pretty soon .

Congrats SOS, a deserved honour.

Like Blackwell, I think the Silvagni boys will need to bulk up a bit for they'll be considered for selction.

What are they doing sitting there? They should either be eating pasta and steaks, washed down with a litre of gatorade, or doing hour long training drills. After that, they should be practising shots on goal.

Times a wasting!

There's another photo on the back page with SOS and the boys and Tom is a spitting image of Serge.

SOS can do no wrong in my household.
I love SOS; my wife loves SOS and thinks he's still hot.
And I fancy SOS's missus.

She outta be congratulated for building a backline almost singlehandedly.

Steve Silvagni, the man, the legend. The one Parkin relied on when we were in trouble...

If at Half time in a game, you saw SOS go to the wrong end, you knew we were in strife and needed help... If you saw it at quarter time, look at the scoreboard we were down by 10... Helped me sledge opposition supporters with
"Oh, go on SOS, give Dunstall a kick!"
"He is just too good for you Lockett, too goooooood!"
"Come back next week, Ablett, you might have a better chance..."

We all miss you SOS!

haha, I used that one lots.

One of my favourite stories we were playing Melbourne at the G in about 93, SOS lined up on Garry Lyon who kicked a few goals in the first quarter. Loudmouth below us was getting stuck into SOS, 2nd quarter Lyon very quiet, 3rd quarter Lyon moves into the Centre because he can't get a kick, I'm getting more vocal at every contest "You doing pretty well for a hack SOS" "Whats wrong Lyon, can't get a kick on the hack". 3 quarter time the bloke has moved.
