Hamill is lucky that the perception of his leadership has grown over the last few years because his output on the field in pure football terms has decreased since 2000. Even with a gun midfield to deliver the ball to him he averages less now in every aspect of the game than when he played at Carlton. To make matters worse for the Saints he cannot even get out onto the park now.

That game style has a limited shelf life, hard to show leadership from the bench.

Yep, Livo will never be a star, but we potentially have him for 10 years

you know where you can stick your stats Jar-Jar 8)

You use the word 'perception' which resonates with untruths but my point is that footballers rave about him - and I think they are more attuned to this stuff than us. (though of course with a few more stats you and i could have been great footballers  ).

maybe he is a great footballer on field in ways stats and stuff don't capture.

maybe he has the Force.

maybe his golden fleece could have been ours! (sorry maxy).

Hamill reminds me of Perseus, had everything handed to him, looked out for number one and really was quite overrated in the end.

Percy didnt have looks handed to him...

Look Hamill was a mistake.. Elliott wanted to make an example out of Hamill to stop the rot with Allison..
Why Hamill???Cos Hamill was a mad through and througfh Carlton supporter..

Unfortunately things went too far... and the stakes kept rising..
What we should have done is turfed out Bradley and reserved that money for Hamill.

Hamill would be our captain now..

No he isnt a champion footballer.. but what he id was spend time with kids.. encourage them and TAUGHT THEM WORK ETHIC!!!!
Pagan would have killed for Hamill....

who would make the best Captain from Hamill, Kouta, Stevo and Campo???????

Campo of course.. cant wait till he steps into those shoes.. worn previously by Kernahan and Nicholls...
I feel sorry for the guy that will have to wear them after Campo.... huge shoes to fill forr that poor bugger...

I can just hear the chant.... "Kernahan is dead.. long live Campo.. !!!"(Our saviour.. along with his VC Big RED!!!... were saved!!!!

In good hands this club is...

I think without the rubbish goings on from 2003 and the team bound by the glue in Kouta I'm very optomistic.

I'm expecting Kouta to be the best Captain since Sticks and his attitude suggests he will be just as good. Each and every player looks up to him. You just know Denis and Kouta are running the show this year and not complaining has beens.

Please please get this right Hamill wanted to leave Carlton for the money-why would he have gone to a rabble like stkilda in 2001 if it wasnt for the money- half an hour before stkilda snaffled him he was going to the swans
He and Dave Allison got Aaron to sign a stat dec that if Carlton didnt trade him then he would go into pre season draft and we would have got nothing for him- good leadership and most honourable
Ask SOS Ratten Parkin Brittain how he left carlton and the reasons

BM as for Jack Elliott having a go at him what player didnt he have a go at when they wouldnt sign come on dont believe the guys revisionist history- jack was a prick but lets not lay the blame at his feet because Aaron wanted the cash- he wanted to be paid as a superstar and he wasnt one and did he deserve more than sos kouta ratten mckay lance campo or others of course he didnt
Remember the night blight got sacked poor aaron was in tears and had to have dave down to training to comfort him - good leadership
He wouldnt have been a captains boot lace at carlton he succeeded with limited output at the saints because they didnt have any leaders
As for lance and campo taking a pay cut bloody hamill just got a 5 year contract and preached to the other s about restraint in contract negotiations to keep the side together-once again good leadership
Interestingly lasty year the g train wasnt all that enamoured with what hamill was getting per year given he was getting as much as the g but his output was much worse on any benchmark

Happy for others to pine for him but never want him near my club again and until he tells the truth why he left he deserves to be treated as a pariah- captain material; yes at a second rate pony show not at my club that s won 16 premierships -with great captains as nicholls kernahan barrassi fitzy

yes but that's only because we can only see things coming toeward the navy blue, going away we see nothing but shit.

Doesn't mean we are right or wrong just that we barrack for carlton

and the question still rmeains did we @#$%&! up?
Would hamill have been a better captain than Whits or Kouta? if yes, then should we have kept him?

If no then he was smart to leave and get it elsewhere. This club is not always right. Just Navy blue and that's fine by me.

was Fitzy? great captain, good ruckman - a champion ruckman? hmmm

He was all three, DB, believe me.

I saw most of his games and rate him second only to Big Nick as a Carlton captain. Like Nick, he often dragged a flagging side back into a contest by sheer force of will - often by shifting himself to CHF and booting crucial goals. A strong mark and good kick, Fitzy matched and beat the best of the rest in a golden era of ruckmen. But it was his leadership that stood out. Here's one example.

In 1982 Carlton played Richmond late in the season at Waverley Park. As usual for the times it was a rugged and willing encounter, and by late in the third quarter Carlton were wilting under the onslaught. Then Richmond's Mick Malthouse crashed an elbow into Ken Sheldon's head, knocking him out.
Blue Fury erupted and four or five Carlton players went after Malthouse.
But they couldn't get to him because Richmond ruckman Mark Lee was in the way. Enter Fitzy. Thump. Lee is sitting on his bum. Then Fitzy has Malthouse by the collar, marching him backwards with their faces centimetres apart. Message delivered, he sends Malthouse stumbling backward with a last contemptuous push - then turns to call his team together.
From that moment, Richmond were history.
What a player. What a leader. What an inspiration.
