Was more than handy darknavy. How many of the great full-backs could switch to Full-Forward and be an absolute goal-kicking match winner. Lost count of how many times SOS did that for us!! :D

I reckon the only reason we picked up OReilly :? was so SOS could go forward.

It was because McKernan sparked the Roos in the 99GF and we had no answer. It was also because we were too lazy to do a medical check on the guys knees or watch any tapes of his last season at Freo

A lot of us have oooh'd and aaaah'd about some of Teague's suicidal marking last year. SOS did this consistently throughout his career. Running back with the flight of the ball to mark or get in a spoil, and the number of times he would dive recklessly onto an opponent's boot to smother.... Absolutely fearless... he never hesitated in going for the ball and never put his own safety first...classic example was when Milburn cleaned him up.

Everytime SOS went out there, you were left in no doubt that he was playing for the jumper. I think my estimations of him went up even more because of that... He was the epitome of playing for the love of the Navy Blue (same reason why Peter Dean is one of my favorite players). Damn! Did he set an example to teammates or what? I hope some of that gets passed onto SOS' kids!

Or when he dived for an impossible mark at Subiaco Rd 13 97 (WCE) late in the match after kicking 6 goals, we were only 1 goal up, he landed heavily, had to go off and couldn't take the kick.

Or his magic speech to the players at 3 quarter time in the 99 Prelim.

Would love to have known what it was exactly he said.

I've heard (told to me by an Essendon* fan, actualy) that during the third quarter Moorcroft was telling Craig Bradley things like "you're too old", "you're too slow", "your season's over", etc.

SOS's 3/4 time speech was to ask who Moorcroft is to have a go at a champ like Bradley, and who says our season is over....

Like I said, that's what I've heard. SOS's book says he "piped up with a few words along the lines that none of us might ever get another chance to play off for a premiership and yet here we were, oh so close."

A magical time. That day has a place in my heart, and Silvagni played a big part in putting it there.

As a defender conceded only 1 goal during the 1995 Finals Series against the following:

- Qualifying Final -v- Brisbane - Daryl White (1 goal)

- Preliminary Final -v- North - Wayne Carey (0 goals)

- Grand Final -v- Geelong - Gary Ablett (0 goals)

To concede 0 goals against fellow Hall of Famers (Carey will be one eventually) in consecutive weeks in a Final Series was a sensational effort.

His 1995 final series has to rate as one of the best finals series ever. (Up there with Ablett's 89, Bartlett's 80, Hopkin's 70, etc.)

Just on that finals series, many peopel would say well Darryl White, big deal, but White played great football as a forward in the latter part of that season. The fact we elected to play SOS on him rather than Merrett is testimony to how well he was playing.

All true. White's last half of the year was part of the reason Brisbane had that terrific run to the finals. A lot of people forget that by the time the finals rolled around Brisbane were the second best team going around, and that the Qualifying Final was a great match. Brisbane pushed us in a way that North and Geelong didn't in the later finals.

Let's not do a Collingwood and draft them just for the sake of drafting them.

If they are good enough to play top line footy, then they will be drafted.

You and your selective quoting. The last bit of my post showed that i was joking around with the laughing emotion and everything. Can you tell a joke?

But yeah, good old SOS. Lloyd may have sneaked a couple goals in in the 99 prelim but how many times did SOS just leap onto Lloydys boot and save goals? I reckon he saved about 4 goals just in the last quarter.

We should show Livo that tape, how close SOS was wearing Lloyd, every goal Lloyd kicked SOS was right on his hammer, holding onto him and making Lloydy kick of the ground and do all sorts of stuff.

Something i loved about SOS? If his opponent was off balance at all, he'd give him a little knock so his mans hip was facing up and then he'd just collapse right into there sides with his arms and legs waving everywhere and his eyes on the ball pretending he was still going for it. @#$%&! he was good at that. Any other defender would've been pinged 9 times out of 10 trying to do that.

SOS, he may be gone, but the memories will always be there   :D

Serge was very defensive of the way SOS played and I agreed with him 100% It all came down to being in the right position and reading the play...and then like you say when he was in trouble he knew how to make his attempts look clumsy and could make them as legal as possible.
