The thing is, Smith won't let this issue go. No matter how much Carlton people describe it as a vendetta, or similar, he just won't let it go until Pratt is gone.
I wouldn't be surprised if Pratt has thought about stepping aside over this issue. If the Carlton faithful here in general-public-land feel strongly that Pratt should stay, then maybe they need to try and make their voices heard??? Call up SEN, 3AW etc, write letters to the editor to the Australian, whatever people think is necessary. Whatever people want to say though, will meet robust criticism and needs to be able to withstand such, because whether we like it or not, Smith presents a compelling case to the independent observer.
Personally, I struggle with the issue a bit. On the one hand I'm so thankful and grateful for the things Pratt has set up for our club in 12 months he has been on board. And, if he is able to continue, then one can only imagine the club will be in an even stronger position for it. However, I'm not sure I could strongly defend his position as President if the AFL Commission decided to have a quiet word in his ear.
While Pratt has done so much great work at Carlton in his brief tenure to date, if required, do we have a President in waiting? Is now the right time for Fahour? If not, who?
The thing I struggle with, is if Pratt was president of another club, while I would not necessarily be actively calling for his head, I couldn't see myself actively defending either.
And, right now, it hurts to hold that opinion.
