very true.
all the pride carlton fans once had in their club being different than the rest has been erroded away in the last 4 seasons.
Carlton is a minimum of 3 years away from being a genuine top team.
That makes 7 years at the bottom.
We are no better than St Kilda, Fremantle, Bulldogs, Richmond etc.

But 4 bad years does not a St Kilda, Fremantle, Bulldogs, Richmond etc, make.

That takes around 100 years of mediocrity.

again you talk such rot!!

dont know where you come up with all this rubbish... The new Footscray???

We will be the new Footscray when we havent won a premiership in 40 years,.... 7 or 8 years at the bottom is not Collos or Pagans fault..
We have a long way to go to return... and it aint easy!!!.. if youre not patient ..well piss off!!!

It something that stems from way before Denis and Collo...

How is the president "excepting loosing as part of the game"??? :?

Some players try...look at McGrath, Carrazzo, Walker ,Waite, Fisher.. etc
Why would a coach lose his players squarehead???

In my opinion if players forget about their self importance for a minute and concentrate on instructions we might start getting somewhere...

Funny how blokes like Archer talk about Denis as he is a GOD... funny how the players we have who dont like being told what to do arent Archers arsehole..

who the hell is going to respect a player like Campo more than Archer??

Look at how Brent Harvey is not a shadow of his former self without Pagan...

These blokes understand hard work...!!! They work better when they get worked harder!!!!.... Laidley comes along with his Micky Malthouse style midfield rotatiosn and Harvery hates it...

It gets down to WORK ETHIC!!!

You can see the players who have the ethic from those that dont...
Campo /`Lance dont have it..
waite / walker do...
Plkayers like these thrive under Denis..

So the question is asked...should our future be orientated around Campo / Lance and a sensitive modern day coach or a guy that instills work ethic as a pre requisite to ultimate success???

It all boils down to that!!!

No, not at all. There's a lot of hope on our list. We've got some big problems... or more correctly we are in the final throes of our some of our big problems:

* huge contracts hamstringing our recruitment
* draft penalties

and we will improve.

You've got a very even year this year and we just haven't been up to it when it has mattered. We've given a number of players another chance but unfortunately it didn't pan out - Johnson, Bannister + those already gone.

We've got improved finances, we've moved from the oldest list to the youngest list and when we fire we look great.

In 2002/2003 we had a list of unskilled players. Now we have a list with ebtter skill but low confidence. We need 3-5 really skilled players to lift the bar, and the rest of the list will follow.

I man we had Cranage on our list back then - freakin' woeful player.

I wish you were right. But our skills are @#$%&! abominable. Just ask Fev how many blokes in our team he'd trust to hit him on the chest from 35 metres. You could count them on 1 hand. Skill is one of our most glaring deficiencies.

Cranage was a disgrace to the navy blue guernsey, but no more so than many others currently on our list. He'd have many mates on the current list.

I disagree wholeheartedly. I think we've forgotten how bad we were a few years ago. We had VFL players running around for us, and lots of them. Give these young players some leadership and high class performances and they will follow. Until this year, Thornton, Sporn and Houla were among our most skilled players - they've dropped off as the season had progressed.

I sincerely believe that as fans we're too stuck in the moment to reflect on how far we've come.

How far we've come? Oh dear. If we've come far to get from 16th to 16th, getting from 16th to 1st is going to be a 500 light year intergalactic mission to another solar system.

I guess you can look at it either way. What we're really doing is comparing the horrible smell of two different shits. In the end, they're both just pieces of crap.

Everyone know's you're a pessimist and presumably smell your own shit for fun but simonverbeek there is a quantum leap between us in 2002 and 2005. We aren't stealing any wins like we did in 2004 but the dark that surrounded us in 2002/2003 is starting to dissipate.

Finances, draft picks, spine of the team - if you can't see it then stay away from the team and fans so you can't bring anyone else down.

A pessimist on this website is known in the outside world as a realist (there are people here who think, for example, that wiggins is an afl standard footballer so you have to tweak the "istic" scales a bit)

No doubt the finances are better, we have picks again, and we're closer to the next time we're good. That's obvious.

As for the spine - Waite fev and thorno are all future guns. It needs more than that though. Livo - the jury is still well and truly out.

We're on the way back as a club, no doubt about that, but I think you look through navy blue glasses a bit. Molsey, our own president (the head of the club for christ's sake) has come out and said our list is full of d to z graders, but you say we have a list with better skill. Do you know more than him?

You also said about 2002:
molsey wrote:

Is the case any different now? We have more VFL standard players than you can poke a stick at. That's why dennis pagan rotates the bottom four or five in and out of the team. Pagan says in every press conference that we have no talent. Do you know more than Dennis Pagan?

Molsey, I agree with you that the club as a whole is in a better state than back then, but we're only starting to rebuild now. We;re the standout worst team and list in the comp.

Pagan and collins (our coach and president) tell us every week how shit we are. Why should I believe you over Dennis Pagan and Ian COllins?
