Before you all commit me to a mental institution, hear me out. While i am angry and pi..ed off at our current plight, i dont believe we are that far away from being a good side.
The hardest thing in football to accumulate is a good spine and i belive we have that in Livingstone, Thornton, Stevens, Waite/Whitnall & Fev. The good thing about these guys, is they should all be ready to explode in the next year or 2 (bar Lance). We also have a couple of younger blokes in Hartlett/Fisher who could be used as 3or 4 talls down back or up front.

What we have lacked this year is midfielders..With the lack of pressure these guys have been putting on the opposition, Livo & T-Bird have had no chance. This can be rectified quickly as the draft is usually inundated with quality midfielders. If we do get the Priority pick, we will have 3 picks in the top 20. A midfield consisting of Stevens, Walker, Russel, Lappin,Kouta and a couple of other youngster has a more menacing look about it. It will also help the likes of Scotland/Campo/Chambers as they will be able to be rotated more often and get a chop out. We also have the PSD draft where not only can we pick up a quality out of contract player, but we can use it as a threat against other clubs, as the saints did with Hamil and Richmond worked to their advantage last year in geting Simmonds. If teams are thinking we can pick up a player for nothing in the PSD, they may trade him to us at a cost price, and we get to keep the PSD pick. Richmond did this beautifully in helping them get Simmonds & Knobel.

Power/Ling/Tenace/McLean/ Bartel/Kelly are all out of contract this year and all would look great in a Blues jumper.

Have faith felow bluebaggers, this year has a similar feel to it as when the Saints won the Wizard cup in 1996? and won the spoon, but the next year or two, they really took off and contested a GF.

We need to piss off the bludgers!!
Free up some salary cap space...
Bring in players that are prepared to work towards a cause.
We need to bring in talent...

Coming lst this year will take us a long way towards BUILDING towards a sustainable succesful future.
It wont solve our problems over night.
Unfortunately we probably need a couple of years around the bottom to really begin moving up with any real positivity and gusto`.

Im hoping we can snare power in the PSD and one of Kelly, Tenace or Bartel from Geelong. We would have to give something decent up for the the geelong boys probs a 1st rounder. Pick 18 for one of Kelly/Bartel/Tenace i think is pretty fair. We dont real need tall forwards but we do need a tall defender and a couple of fast hard nuts for the back pocket. I think a ruckman can wait 1 more year since Bryan seems to be doing well and French will still have hoepfully atleast have 3 to 4 years.
A midfield of say, Stevens, Camporeale, Koutafidies, Scotland, Walker, Bartel and Power looks pretty good on paper.

I thought Ling was out of the equation...I was under the impression the he just recently re-signed...But i'd definately take either Kelly or Bartel, but as Geelong learn from last year with Oteens, if you want a good player, you have to pay through the a.., so i'd say that Kelly or Bartel in particular will cost a bit more then a late first rounder...The other big problem in trading for midfielders in the off-season will be teams like Collingwood and Essendon*, who both want mids as well and unlike us would probably part with their first rounder, especially if Collingwood gets pick 7 or 8...But just thinking about our midfield with Power and Kelly/Bartel is getting me exited   ..
