There are critics as well as those that dont think Denis is to blame for our predicament, but aside from the critisism, what would those who have a problem with DP do?

For mine, I would have thought that in some ways, 2005 isnt turning out as a year without any upside and maybe we need to concentrate on the silver linings of the draft picks and the development of our younger players

Is 2005 really all that bad when the big picture is looked at, perhaps our annus horribilus - the third really in 4 years - is necessary in order to advance?

Panic!!

Time to go back to basics I reckon - give everyone an opponent and if we win the majority of contests then we'll at least be competitive. Simple man on man footy. We're playing like a pack of under 11's, why not have the strategy to match?

Nice plan, Deano. Could actually work, although at least the u11's get paid a mark if it touches the hands whether they catch it or not.

If it were up to me, I'd drop campo for a week, just to fire him up.

I'd be putting a "penalty" on misses on goal from gettable shots, missed tackles, 2nd efforts not given, etc, and make the rest of the team judge (360 degree evaluation) on whether particular "offences" are payable, and even extend it to the coaching staff where really bizarre things are done which ends up costing the team goals, momentum, etc.

I'd play as many guys who are on the verge of being AFL-level players as possible. If we lose matches, that can't be helped. Those players are unlikely to win it on their own anyway. The least we can do is provide those players with a leg-up and advantage over younger players at other clubs by giving them good quality match time. It will pay dividends in a big way next year.

I'd also be starting to work out not only who has the skill to stay at Carlton, but the desire to, the hunger, the small things which may give a less skilled player an edge in a tough match or in a tight contest. Like the Coaches own "naughty and nice" list....

i'd shake things up, drop a name or two.

people are getting two comfortable playing poor footy yet not really being punished (campo and houla in mind).

also inject some young ones in and see what they've got.
ie/ russell, blackwell and if possible given rookie list Carlos

havent we been playing man on man footy for the past couple of weeks????

I would continue with the players we have on the field now this will guarentee the priority picks, let the kids like Hartlet, Russel, Setanta, Smith and Simpson play with the Bullants it would do them the good going onto next year.

With the quality and form our list is in I don't think there is much Pagan can do except take it week by week and judge each player on the merit of his performance. It's coming to time of year when the list will need to be culled, so he should set individual players objectives for the rest of their season and play certain players in challenging positions.

Players like Johnson, Davies and Scotland need to be given runs in the midfield to see if they are up to the challenge. I'd like to see Waite in the middle when Fisher comes back next week or the week after. Put Bowyer in the back pocket with his toughness and put Carrazzo through a midfield rotation. Prendagast needs to be in a set position for the rest of the year to make him tougher. I'd keep playing Bryan when French comes back as the 2nd ruck and an option for kick outs. Jordan Russell is just about up to a debut on his VFL form, shows some very classy marking and running disposals. Karl's career seems to have been decided upon, so I don't think he'll get another go.

Karl deserves to have his nuts cut off.. but i dont think theyre in a hurry to do it.
He still has a hope if he turns his attitude around.
They know he is talented enough to play AFL football.. but he needs to show that he wants it... not many weeks o impress Karl.. so get to it..

He's been a disappointment this year I'm sorry to say. He showed some brilliant glimpses in 2004 and one was excited to see his development continue, but... :(

what does pagan need to do.

he needs to grow some balls and accept some of the blame.

Fevola was useless after the slight groin strain he endured during the 2nd quarter - if that was all it took for him to become useless he shouldnt have played.

Stevens - is clearly not right, the first few weeks he couldnt miss a target, but now just about every single one of his kicks fall a few meters short of its target - clearly carrying an injury.

Kouta - is clearly way of his best and also appears he has a remergence on his knee injury, give him a rest.

Campo - appears he is carrying an injury but he needs a rest in the two for no other reason than he is a petulant little shit - Walker and Aka where at it all day and not a free kick was paid against either of them, but Campo - 3 seconds into a bit of hurry curry - freekick to AKA. Needs a rest to smarten him up.

Houla - well prancing boy needs to get dropped to the twos and have a long hard look at himself. Has been shit, shirks to many issues, and now his disposal is starting to falter we cant even use the excuse that we have to have him in due to his high level of skill.

Scotland - a little like Houla - shirks the issue to much for me, several times he had the opportunity to put his body on the line and get the ball to our advantage but didnt do so, becoming a liability. needs to be dropped.

Johnson - did okay - but i think Blackwell should be given a chance to see how he goes. Blackwell shouldnt play every week until he has a more matured body, but Johnson provides about as much as Blackwell and Blackwell will benefit more by getting a game now than playing Johnson.

For me everyone else did well. Waite, Walker, Whitnall all did very well, Betts when on the ground played his part, Davies, like betts, when on the ground did what was required.

Our defence - poor bastards the lot of em. Try their guts out only to be let down by the lack of defensive pressure coming from our midfield. Carrots, Livo, Thorton, McGrath, Teague all did well in very trying circumstances.

Our forwards where pretty good as well - making some mistake (waites shot on goal) but they will learn from this.

I blame Pagan for all of that - for not having the conviction that a coach should have by making the hard calls and telling them to rest/drop them and bringing in someone that deserves to play the game.

Kouta, Stevens, Fevola (after the splits) where pretty much useless during the game and IMO was due to injury, if they arent right, dont play them and give someone in the twos that is fit and deserve it a go.

I hate losing, hate it with a passion, but playing the likes of those that i mentioned that are clearly injured serves no purpose what so ever and pagan gets the blame for not making the hard decision and telling them to get themselves right and have a rest.
