Hello and welcome to a big Round 13 of Wolfister's Weekly one cent stats - a big week for the gang at the big blue office at the bottom end of town, as we get a week off next week. Some of the guys are heading back to the scene of last year's Christmas party, Majreczak-Verbeek 5. How are the slopes looking Obscuration? Anyway round 13, unlucky for some - but hey we've practically had 12 unlucky ones so far, so maybe 13 will be a change of fortune!
Carlton and the Bulldogs (Footscray or Western!) have played 131 times, with the Blues winning 82 of those (62.6%) at PM+1953. In recent years the two sides have been fairly even, with Carlton winning 3 of our last 5 (PM+17) and 6 or our last 10 (PM+62)... and 6 of the 12 since they changed their name from Footscray! This will be the first time that the two clubs have met outside of Victoria, and it is a little known fact that this will in fact be our second match for Premiership points in Darwin... in fact it's so little known that it's possible that I made it up... OK... I did...
This will be our 107th Round 13 encounter, winning 66 of our previous 106 (62.3%) at PM+1120 - making Round 13 our 11th most successful round on record. We have won 3 of our last 5 (winning the last one - against the Tigers at the Docklands) at PM+133, and 5 of our last 10 at PM+142. We've played the Bulldogs 4 times in Round 13, winning 3 of these at PM+163 - the only loss coming in 1951 where we went down by 3 points at home. The last time we played the Dogs in Round 13 was in 2001, where we beat them by 61 points at home. We've played interstate 5 times in Round 13, winning 2 of these at PM+23 - a 15 point loss to Brisbane in 2002 being the heaviest of these defeats, while a 57 point win over the Dockers in their first season gives us that positive PM ratio.
We have played 14 times on June 18, winning 12 of these (85.7%) at PM+414... making June 18 our 16th most successful playing day. In fact our only 2 June 18 losses have been against Melbourne by only 8 points in 1949 and Hawthorn by only 4 points in 1966. Our last June 18 game was in 1994, where we beat the Saints by 80 points, while the big stat this week takes us back to 1983 where we met The Bulldogs in our only June 18 clash and won... yep.... that's right.... we're undefeated against the Bulldogs on June 18!
Till next week, remember that 85% of statistics are looking forward to a rest next week, and are kind of pleased that they wont have to play stats of origin.
Wolf Out!
