To those with it on the box, did Walker tighten up on Cooney?

No, Walker played most of the 2nd half on Robert Murphy. Didn't notice Cooney much in the 2nd half, I think he spent a bit of time on the bench ... knackered probably, he looked spent in the 1st quarter.

Ah...I've been watching this guy...he's in my team. He's been flying this year. Been getting heaps of the ball and kicking a few most weeks. May have only played two or three average games all year.

The smart kid in a slowish body....its the Lance Whitnall syndrome as we've been hearing about the last few days

16 Premierships and did those cups look awsome on display.
Should the Aints present their cup it would be over in 30 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cooney got a couple of clearances from the centre by virtue of knowing where to run, a very good player. He's not terribly slow but doesn't have a Judd-like turn of pace. Walker is roughly a full year younger and still looks to be learning the game. I for one hope that in the next 12-18 months that he's given full reign to back himself and play his own game. The apprenticeship he's served tagging the likes of Aker and McLeod will be invaluable.

Thats really what the rest of this season has to be about, developing the young players. Let Walker tag the rest of this season. Maybe give Waite the run of the forward line, let Fev and Whitnall fit around him. Decide which two of the younger midfielders, Bentick, Russell, Blackwell, Carazzo. Simpson etc. are closest and play them on the ball every week. I'm not sure what else there is we can do, but just bring the good kids along as much as we can.

It may not be a good debut to bring Russell in against the Eagles, so why didn't he play against the dogs when he's quicker than Deledio over 20 metres?

I think he will.

I may be biased, but he is only 20. He can get the fitness up, and he will be a great player.

Still a lot of development between he and Ray left.

Ray will improve as he gains strength. Cooney will be pretty static in comparison IMO. Getting his fitness up may mean he plays a few more minutes a 1/4 before being rotated off but won't make him an inherently better player. He's a super player by virtue of playing against men in the SANFL (or wherever he was drafted from). I just think that kids who have only played against other kids will have more room to move in their development.

If I'm proved wrong in the next few years feel free to send me a postcard saying "You're a dick" ;)
