I reckon if Fev can get 3 years so should Lappo (apparently the last sticking point in his negotiations)

No, Matthew shouldn't get 3 years. Two completely different scenatios.

Matt is approaching 30 and is demanding a deal that will see him until he's 33. Very few players make it that far for starters and with Matt's indifferent form in 2005 there is no guarantee he will last that long

Fev is a franchise player approaching the peak of his career. A potential 100+ goal player who would be a league superstar at any other side. He has signed well under his market value in an effort to stay loyal.

The offer of 2 years for Lappin is more than suitable. Reward him well salary wise but a 3 year contract is excessive.

Great news! And the price is right IMHO!

And even better ... this should put an end to all the bullsh!t threads about the deal supposedly already done with Collingwood, blah, blah, blah.

Marci, Lappin will be 32 at the end of his next 3 year contract. IMHO 300K for 3 years is fair. He is worth it and can play until 32.

Awesome, I'm a little surprised he agreed to that figure for 3 years with the TV deals to be finalized and potentially more cash available, though :? .

Problem with Lappo is he'll never be eligible for Vet listing at carlton otherwise I'd give him whatever he asked for.

GO FEV!! :D

Essentially you're right but he will be closer to 33.

Matthew is contracted until the end of this year. He turns 30 next January. He wants a contract that will cover him from 2006 until the end of 2008. He will then only be a couple of months away from 33.

Having heard Collo state that players at Matthew's age should preferably be placed on 1 year deals and negotiated yearly based on form and performance, I believe a 2 year deal is generous. AFAIC, he is worth a lot more than $100K annually as suggested. Double that as a minimum for me.

Great result. Both parties a winner and thank god I don't have to explain to my 3 year old why Fev isn't wearing 'the blues' anymore.

Now all we need to do is to sign someone to kick it to him.

well done to all.

The club for doing a sensible deal;

Fev for having the foresight to see where we will be; and

And biggest thanks TO Rambo Stallone..

without his deliberately misleading post this morning about Fev going to Collingwood, which Pagan and COllo read, the CLub may have been too relaxed and lost Fevola to the Pies.

Personally I don't think that Brendan can ever be captain material.

Great news! Hopefully when the blues start rising up the ladder again he will be hitting his straps and will be a genuine superstar. And in 2008 when he kicks the ton that $400,000 will be way below his market price (here's hoping).

A question: I looked on the age website (as I do every morn) and didn't see the article. I still don't. I can only find it by following the link on this site. Where did you find it?
