Matthew Allan is one of the reasons why we are in the mess we are at the moment.
He can be best described as an overpaid footballer who wasn't worth the dosh he was on.

I look back on our 2003 Trade Period and the people we got rid of.
All of them, bar Murphy, are playing in the twos of their respective clubs.
The rest we got rid of were delisted.

For mine, we have come out on top.

Allan is clinging onto his football career much like a cat clings to the ledge of a wet roof, trying to avoid falling three stories to the ground.
Allan is doing anything to get noticed.

Quite pathetic, really.

In fairness, if Allan was contracted after 99 then it was on the back of some outstanding footy. He suffered a horrible debilitating injury, which i don't really take any joy from. Also most of the players we got for the players we swapped are in the VFL too (or should be). I think we did the right thing to have a clean out, gained something in age and attitude but gained little in terms of talent.

Fair call GWS. I thought the 'revolt' occured in the second half of the season rather than from then outset. Still find it hard to pin a lot of blame on Ratts. He was retired, in disappointing circumstances in my view, well before the end of the season. Still DP has a hard job from here on in. Don't envy his task of getting us out of this mess. But I just hope (to use a DPism) he doesn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The revolt started before the season even began. That the new administration had just had it out with the players over the fact that they didn't think paycuts were a good idea even though we were already between 20 and 25% over the cap going into 2003 didn't help Pagan's cause.

Add to that the response of Denis and Mulkearns after they realised that weight training had been an optional extra previously...

Of course I've played no games for Carlton.

But I still think I've GIVEN more to the club than Matthew Allan.

I've GIVEN the club time and money. So have plenty of other people here.

Matthew Allan SOLD his time and skills to the club for a very large salary.

The volunteers who work for free for the club (and there are plenty) have GIVEN more to the club than the professional athletes who wear the jumper today.

Ian Coutts - SELLS his time and skills to the club, therefore he has GIVEN LESS to the club than the women who wash the socks and jumpers for nothing but the love of the club.

Michael Malouf - SELLS his time and skills to the club. The board members who give their time for free are GIVING.

I'm not nit-picking with the SELLS/GIVE thing. I think it's a vital distinction.

Glad be of assistance, Mr Molsey.

Although I'm pretty sure Danny drank about $31,000 worth of free beer at the B&F once...

Jeez - he's as bad as Matthew Allan.

Mathew Allan and Co were execting the good times to continue forever.
One day Elliott fell over, the club was [REDACTED].. and Collo stepped in and asked for salary cap cuts. These players spewed.
Never in their most bizarre dreams did they ever think they would have to give back to the club... it had never happened before...
In the meantime Corey McKernan was busy telling players what it was like to a) play under Denis b) salary cuts.
These players were not going to stand fvor it.. it didnt happen before why did it have to happen when it was their turn to $$$$$$????
The revolt started the day Denis got there and told them they had to train harder physically.. and when Collo said give back the money..!!!
In a way its still continuing today... there are 2 or three still at the club.
Though my favourite bit about the Allan article was the pathetic picture of him looking at the camera all depressed.
Matty... you threatened to leave the club 3 times. Two times to bottom placed Freo (after one good season in the firsts) and the last time to Essendon*.

The club doesnt owe you, you owe the club.

There will be a couple more of your mates out the back door at the end of the year to keep you company.

PS Beaumont was a hack!!!Why complain on his behalf when he will get turfed out of Hawthorn???
why were you guys good enough to stay at Carlton and soak up the $$$$$$????

Good riddance!!!

Danny is a marvel. Interestingly, he drinks bottles from the same brown paper bag that contained bucketloads of cash for Mr.M Allan.

So JohnM, are you the Buzz?

Allan was always a dumb shit,
Oh were so sorry we arsed Beauie should have given him another 200k for missing more targets than a blind archer
Love the anti-Pagan/Collo club coming to kick whilst the team is down.
Gutless mercenaries.

Funny that Bookie. I think some of the anti-Pagan/Collo club weren't even around when we won the Wizard Cup.

I think if we look back at threads, there will be very few anti-Pagan posts, even at the end of last year, if you search back through TBV etc.

Johnm, interesting point about sell/give. I always look at in terms of what value Coutts, the sock washer and others provide to the club.

In terms of Allan at the peak of his career at Carlton his value was justified, once he became chronically injured his value diminished. Once he became distgruntled he was of no value to the club and he should've moved on quietly. The fact that he still bitter is probalby means that he still feels like he was hard done by and I don't think has anything to do with what he got paid but rather how he was treated after what he felt was the good service he gave to the club.

Nah, I'm not The Buzz. But I'm sure he's one of us... (not that I know who it is...) Although I'm SURE it's not Tommi (who I think should have a weekly column in The Age, but that's another story)

Great idea there about tommi.

It could just be like a weekly diary. Melbourne would fall in love with him. Although it is nice to have tommi all to ourselves. :D

The poster would say
" If you listen to grown ups like your cousin who idolises characters like 'The Game' Beaumont and Allan youre a loser "

Okay then Rhys did we throw the Richmond game this year? Who leaded the first half strike in that game? So I'm a loser because I don't believe my footy team throws games, from now on I'll believe everything I read here and kick Campo whenever I get the chance. GWS you reckon posters on the internet contribute more to Carlton than the players, well hell I've made a couple of thousand on the other board, you've probably made 3 times that lets go visit Collo and ask for life membership.

You obviously applaud bad culture.
You applaud mediocrity in senior players.
You applaud money hungry mutineers.
You applaud a club that with its poisoned culture is not going anywhere.
You dont applaud a coach who wants to change all this.

Are you a relative of Beaumont?
