and then the boys ran out of legs

the eagles stepped up a cog

and all hell broke loose.

Firstly - bloody hell they have a midfiled. All through the first half i was saying to my son it's like a dyke out there, sooner or later the damn is gunna burst! It did and end of game.

Bryan is a real goer but he is not a ruckman. I hope he can play somewhere else, if not then he is in trouble, he is just too small.

What's the go with Longmuir and Chambers? They gave us nothing. I worry about tthem two, think Denis got them wrong.

Jesus we need a midfield that hadsa two things - genuine speed and defensive skills that can last a whole game. Once our 4 boys tire we are gawn.

Livo did okay today but how small did our backline look!

Thought lance did well for a half and then was buggered. Thought Waite did well for a half then the ball dried up, thought Fev did well for a half and then got tired and the ball dried up.

Damn shame Johnno missed that easy open goal, ruined what was a good game for him but he needs help.

Play Blackers, Russell, Hartlett, shit play Batson as have a look at him - what does it matter?

As for the flood i think pagan knew the boys were shot and couldn't man up - that takes the ability tpo run with your opponent - oh and Stevo is not a centreman - jesus did i mention we need to do something about that midfield?

Problem is Blackers and Smith are not swift and we do still need speed - not the chambers speed though, but speed that gets the ball.

I'm off the T-Lo and Jaws bandwagon. They sucked big time in a very sucky team.

Props to Walker and the back line that is Livo, Teague and T-Bird for playing the 4 quarters.

Dannyboy,

Perhaps Dennis could use Bryan at CHB if we had another ruckman to support Barnaby? He certainly has the size we need down back and is a thumping kick and he seems to have a bit of stamina and is not scared to rough it up. All attributes which a CHB needs to possess to try and match himself up against the good CHF's. Nothing to lose and maybe worth a try in the last few games as Dennis goes over his options for next year.

Agree that we also need more midfielders and we don't look good chasing tail but I think a lot of that comes from the fact that we need to win in the ruck and if that's not possible win contested possession in the midfield. Johnson has been good at getting his hands on the ball but lacks pace as well as depth and accuracy with his kicking. At 23 it might be too late for him to lift that area of his game and with Kouta needed elsewhere IMO we need to find someone else to step up. Blackers and Smith may not be the outside runners we need but we also need someone to win the contested ball at the centre bounce and feed it out other than Kouta.

I think Dennis realised that we needed to add long kicking, depth and skill to the squad after adding as many numbers as possible to the list two years ago. Some of those players who we picked up have blossomed at the Blues whilst some have not grasped their chance. Some I think were given a repreieve because Dennis needed some experience spread across both the seniors and reserves.

As for Chambers and Longmuir they have not had a full injury free season and both have struggled at times. Chambers showed that he could be a goal kicking midfielder adding pace and depth to our numberof midfield rotations. Longmuir is capable of playing a variety of roles and being an additional marking utility. IMO neither of them is the contested ball winning midfielder with pace to play on ball at the centre bounce that I think the team desperately needs but they can play other roles and add depth and rotations to the team. I would reserve my judgement for another year as they may both become very vital parts of an overall squad.

I'm still reserving my opinion on Longmuir and Chambers and I think they will both be kept beyond this season for at least next year. However for mine both struggle to get involved in a game. The game seems to pass Chambers and Longmuir by. Chambers is disappointing if only because he showed what he could do in the Wizard Cup and for one reason or another hasn't been able to reproduce anything like that form. Just needs to get his hands on the footy a bit more, no use having pace if you can't get the ball. Longmuir seems a bit weak for mine and I think some of his efforts have been poor. However he was injured a lot during pre-season which might be hampering him. He can take a mark but his kicking is questionable. I don't know if there's a spot in the side for him long term.

Chambers might be fast but he has no footy smarts so he looks slow anyway...
Longmuire cant be 26 years old and still have that body... if he didnt sculpt that body at Carlton there was only one other club that would have allowed im to get away with a body like that.. FREO.....
He gets moved off the ball like he is a first year player.
Wont make it....!!!What am i talking about???... hes 26.. of course he wont make it!!!... ....NEXT???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
If Longmuire survives the cut.... i have one piece of advice... HIT THE GYM!!!!!!... HARD!!!!!

Yes Synad that is the most disappointing this about Longmuir - he adds no strength at all, in fcat he might even detract it. Chambers may need to play several games to get the hang of it but boy he doesn't get much of it does he.

Amazon -I sure would like to see Bryan play CHB 'cos if he could boy do things start to look better defensively! I agrere about the Ruck, it really is killing us in thesecond half their midfeilders ran forward just knowing they were going to clear the ball and our guys could not keep up. We need french back and we need a young long term serious option going forward. They must bite the damn bullet and draft a tall skinny ruckman that may take four years! Stiff, we need him.
