Aree that Livo was absolutely shafted bigtime by the umps.
It was almost like the umpires thought "well he cant be holding his own against Fraser so he must be infringing" because there were several times that the players were looking at each other not knowing who had the free.

Livo was good in the first half and was then absolutely crucified by that decision just before half time to pay a free kick to Gehrig about 10 metres out for holding when there was nothing in it at all. After that he seemed to struggle a bit.

umpire #28 had a shocker.

Gehrig was shepparding Livo out of the contest and Livo gets pinged for holding.

This was just after gehrig kicked the ball off the ground out on the full and they didn't call that.

Was umpire #28 Ray Chambelain, or as the ABC radio team dubbed him, Ray Charles?

Think he's 18, it was Hayden Kennedy #7 that made that shocker anyway wasnt it?

Not sure what his name was but he could be umpiring up your way from next week when he's demoted for the rest of the season

At one stage Ray had paid 7 of the 13 free kicks that had been paid for the match.
He was the one that paid the 50's against Fev early on apparently.

Umpires today were #16- Matthew Head, #18- Ray Chamberlain, #28- Kieron Nicholls. A little average today...

Positives for me:

Simmo - I'm one who has doubted whether he could quite make it to AFL. Today he showed me some good stuff. Looking forward to seeing more.

Walker

Carrazzo

Bryan

Russell - While he didn't contribute a whole lot, I thought he didn't look lost out there. Give him another game Denis.

Matthew Head umpired on Friday night Mrs Caz, Hayden Kennedy (I think) #7 umpired today

What the friggin hell was Jarrad on about today ? Try getting the footy instead of lining blokes up.Didnt like everytime he went for the ball he had a little look.Suggest you concentrate on your footy Jarrad and not your contract. On today's game ya better take what's offered.Makes me sick in the guts the new kids on the block putting there hand out before they have proved anything. Also cracks it to easy and far too petulant for my liking.

Just going by the Footy Record, fevolaaa. If Head worked Friday, then it is poss that it was Kennedy, as he was listed as emergency.

Don't really care who it was, as long as at wasn't Goldspink.

Hey, mickstar...positives in this thread, positives... :)

They mentioned on the radio that Head was replaced, can't recall by who though.

Positive: Goldspink or McLaren wasn't umpiring :D

Sorry about that Mrs Cazz but after the club coming out and saying that he was a high priority signing i thought we could have expected a better showing. He's entitled to have an off day.But he's not entitled to carry on like a spoilt 3 yo. coz the pill wasnt rolling his way.

OK positive in a big way was Carrots getting his share of the pill in the guts.Been arguing this for a while. One swallow doesnt make a summer but i reckon he can carry that form on a regular basis. Not nearly enough getting the pill but finding it comes naturally to Carrots. His disposal is far better than a lot suggest.
Simmo showed a bit of the dominator today.Hopefully it will make him realize there is a spot for him. That left boot is lethal.
The Bear was credited with 18 hitouts and something like a dozen possies so he was ok.Strangley his kicking seemed to be off a tad.Cant wait for this guy to get another preseason under his belt. Will become a Brendan Laide type of ruckman. The sort that sneaks up on you and can be very damaging when sharing the load with another bigman.
Livo was good today but got slaughtered by the umps.Thought he matched the Gtrain for strength.Well, almost matched him.
TBird went about his business ok without starring.
Teauge came back to form.
Really, the backline did ok considering the ball was coming in so fast.
Campo was a tad better than ok and was far from our worst in my book.

Carazzo's development to this stage of his career is very similar to Brett Ratten's.

Given some jobs in the backline, a run every now and again in the midfield.

Not necessarily trying to put undue pressure on the kid, but I really like his development.

That's a pretty positive side to today as far as I'm concerned.

My count was they got two goals directly after out on the full wasn't paid.

Simpson was the big positive today. Showed Justin Davies a few things about making position and capitalising on opportunities.

Bowyer and Livo were probably our two best players to half time. Livo just really has the stature and composure of a man now, rather than a boy. Livo and Carrazzo have been our big success stories for the year I reckon.

Isn't it funny how everyone was bagging Carazzo out about his disposal earlier in the year? I reckon he has really turned that around. I think perhaps he is looking for shorter options rather than just banging it long.

Shoot me down but I thought Nick Stevens' work rate in tight was really good, even in the last quarter. 7 tackles and 18 stats despite clearly carrying his injury, compare the 7 tackles to everyone else in the midfield and I think you'll see why I see this as a positive.

Surely the guy needs a break but the club just can't allow it give where we are.

I still support Stevens for captain 2006.

Simpson.
Walker.
Livingston.

Were my biggest positives. Livo was excellent on Gehrig I thought, and while Gehrig kicked poorly possibly flattering Livo, I thought Luke's work on a taller, stronger opponent was first class. Pity the yellow maggots didn't agree.

Walker is going to be such a freak at finding the ball once he and our side develops. He didn't really do a lot in this game, but there was enough there to make me happy. He's got skill, pace and, most importantly, he's got a lot of mongrel about him. I love it!

Simpson, very good game by him and he should be played for the rest of the year without fail. He's slowly arriving.
