I'm just intrigued why he's so desperately unhappy about the direction the Club's taken in the "New Era".

We're all excited and eagerly waiting for the new season to arrive.....and all he does is criticise every thing we do.....I really don't understand.

Now, do you think he's lying? Or perhaps he's failing? Or perhaps he's just incapable of creating a profitable enterprise? You tell me.

You just back up my point being that we are more fortunate than others.

The Bulldogs have turned there situation around with hard work, great management and planning. The same goes with the Saints and Geelong who all 3 clubs were not the most stable in in the past.

None of those clubs were bailed out by a billionare supporter and then go running gloating just how great we are and everyone else is shit and self promoting it's self as 'we're on our way back' yeah thanks to one individuals handouts



No the Bulldogs got a bail out from the biggest supporter of charity and welfare in Australia namely the Federal Government and the fact that John Howard wanted to pork barrel.

1. To Indie's point if you pay too much for hotels, you won't make money out of them.

2. Regarding "Castello's and Mathiesons" "trying to buy up everything", no one is buying hotels at the moment, as no one knows what the new rules will be, valuing pubs at present is problematic.

3. Mathieson (Woolworths) may even have to sell some hotels when the new gaming legislation is finalised.

4. Hawthorn started their process before the gaming announcement in April 08.

5. The new legislation may not help "pokies clubs owners reep (sic) the rewards". (See point 2).

I don't believe a business plan is limited to opening up a pokies venue. We have hundreds of thousands of supporters across the country, and we need 40 odd thousand buying memberships, and many more thousands buying merchandise.

FWIW, i think the state government will be going down the track of the NSW government and actually upping the taxes on pokie machines. No doubt they'll be closing there ridiculous loop holes where sports clubs can claim deductions for maintenance as a community benefit :roll:

Times are tough at the moment, taxes will need to rise and the first places a government goes to are the so-called unsociables such as gaming, ciggies and grog.

I think i'd prefer to see what the government actually does before even thinking about owning a pub :wink:

I can understand what melvey says about us being bailed out by a rich man and now we're strutting around as if all their base belong to us...when basically we got ourself into shit only to be gifted out of it.

But...

I really don't care how we got the money, if it's Dick if it's some business success...as long as we get to strut again...that's when we'll start winning things :-D

I'm not sure that's true. Smorgon might not be as wealthy as Pratt but I'd feel pretty confidebt in saying that he's had his hand in his pocket as have all the wealthy supporters of alll the clubs.
And the WB have the Johnny Howard Western Oval pork barrelling redevelopment as well. A lot of our financial woes were caused by our desire to be independent and fund the legends stand, rightly or wrongly. I think we should just thank our benefactors, one of whom is Mr Pratt and get on with becoming a powerhouse club again.

Dick Pratt is a life-long passionate supporter of the club just like me and MOST of the supporters on this forum.

Difference is he is very rich and influencial so has decided to use that money and influence to support the club he loves in whatever manner he can.

It has obviously worked to bring other passionate supporters back to the club (ie. membership record) despite the fact we are still in debt and haven't been successful on field.

Despite your negativity to all things Carlton we'll happily accept your membership money [edit] and you can have your say.
