Concerned about winning this week and the week after because I would get no satisfaction from it compared to beating an Essendon* or Collingwood. I don't hope we win them all, and I really question the mindset of people that do now that the season is offically gone. Yeah a winning mindset I'll be told, just wonder what it will achieve. I have a winning mindset too, future years of it

After their effort today, we'd have to be a chance to knock off Port.

Just out of curiosity fevolaaa and Zippy, how many games a season do you get to? How many during the last few lean seasons? If you go most weeks, must be strange hoping that your team loses? :?

I haven't missed one in Melbourne, and I don't actively want them to lose at the game

But you don't actively want them to win, either?

Why bother going?

hopefully, hawthorn don't win shit so that we jump them for 15th place, they get the spoon, and we get picks 2 & 4! I'm happy with that.

With picks 2 & 4 will will be almost guaranteed 2 or either Murphy, Ellis, Hurn, Jones, Swallow, Dowler, Clarke, Drum, Lucy, ect-ect-ect! Any two of those would be a great asset to the club!

i think i can live with coming last if it means getting Murphy

The first 2 picks are Murphy and Dowler at this stage ... Murphy is the stand out must be our priority ...and if we have the chance to grab him lets not jeperdise that

So what your saying is that because you think they don't go to as many games as you, that their opinion means shit?

In fairness PJ I think he's saying why bother wasting your money paying to go and hope your team loses.

It kind of defies the old pay money to cheer on your team really. May as well spend your hard-earned on a game you might enjoy!

Well, in our current situation, I only go to the games to watch the younger brigade.

I don't take any notice of the scoreboard.

Hmm not sure how you drew that conclusion pj :?

Ponkstar is spot on whilst you completely missed the point.

It's not about how many games you go to pj. I personally could never go to a game and not actively support Carlton in the hope that they win. You're obviously different, and that's entirely your prerogative. For me it's about supporting us in the pursuit of wins at any cost, or don't bother going. The day that I'm indifferent at the footy as to whether or not Carlton win the given match is the day I'll stop going to the footy. Of course I realise that winning certain matches might not necessarily help us long-term but in the midst of a game who cares about that? I just want to win the bloody games!

Why not just watch the younger brigade on TV pj and save yourself the 'hassle' of going to the game? As Ponkstar said, "why bother wasting your money paying to go and hope your team loses"?

you make a good arguement.

If only we could measure 'hope' and 'expectation of success' for the team at the beginning of the season with its impact on membership sales.

In other words, to support your point, i would speculate that the increase in membership over the last two years has had as much to do with an increased expectation that we are moving forward.

It would be interesting to see what sort of membership we could drum up mid point of this season as everyone debates the merit of winning or losing, trying or not trying.

A lot of people on this site will blow that away because they have always had a membership or are die hards. But to the average punter out there, who has got on board over the last two years.....well i don't know.

If we continue at this rate, it will only get harder to pull people through the gate.
