And he still ended with 13 touches which is more than what 9 Dockers could manage.

Some very good signs.

Simpson - welcome to AFL footy. Good game
Scotland - keep it up the good form, fella.
Fisher - welcome back; you're our new recruit this year
Carazzo - keeps getting better.
Bryan - whilst beaten for most of the afternoon, showed some good signs

Postives:

my two favourite players (Fish and Waite) show plenty. But Fish really needs to work on his kicking. There's no point being a 190+ key forward who can take a grab if you can't kick properly.

A guy like Fish needs to be able to be reasonably confident he can kick a goal almost every time from inside 50 on no worse than a 30 degree angle.

Being 190+ and looking to pass off when you're 50 out isn't a good thing.

But it's not a lost cause. Earl and Loewe were terrible kicks who eventually learned to be passable.

Training watchers: does anyone work on Fish's kicking? And Waite's for that matter? Or are they just pinging away by themselves?

Carey said on Fox Footy he had been working on it with him during the week. The other commentators gave him a bit too after Fish mished a couple. Still a great game back after 12 months out of senior footy.

Positives

The fact we kicked 15+ goals.
Would rather go down kicking 15 goals every week then the usual 8-10 goals.

Wasn't it great to see the side share the ball around? 332 diposals sure beats the hell out of the usual boring as bat piss 220-240.

Kouta - please Denis leave him in the middle.

Campo - well I'll say well done!

Scotland - see above.

Carazzo, Simmo and Fish - All showed they should have long careers.

Waite - I thought he atleast showed he could be an option at CHB for the future. Wasn't disgraced by Pavlich.

and a big well done to Teague and Livo considering how much the ball was coming down they did a great job keeping Medhurst and McPharlin quite.

Negative's

Would love to see one of our forwards get a free kick for holding. The umpires are savage on our defence yet our forwards especially Fevola are being held every week and nothing happens! Just shows the umpires and they never admit it don't always umpire the match but umpire the player!

Until this remark, I didn't think Fev played. :?

I am so stoked with Fisher's game, we all love this guy and today we saw why. I really hope Fisher continues to blossom and is a 10 year player for us, he's definitely a favourite at the cameldome.

Agree with JohnM's comments on his kicking though, and Waite's. Most will be aware of my position on goal kicking practice, or lack therefof. IMO within 45° and 45m out every one of players should be kicking at 75% or higher from set shots. I don't care what position they play, bad kicking for goal is bad football. The goals are 7m wide there's no excuses for AFL footballers to be missing set shots in range at gettable angles.

Simpson too, really wrapped for him and in some wyas if he can continue to develop and gain more confidence he'll be a bonus as many thought he may have missed the boat. Good stuff Simmo! And his ability to kick goals on the run from midfield is something that is very welcome.

Could write some more, but I'm just so happy with Fisher and Simpson. :D

Oh, we had 10 goal kickers today and Lance and Fev didn't kick any, so that also augers well for our future development as a team.

I went to the game today out of duty, expecting to be disillusioned once more, but ended up enjoying the game and our performance.

Simmo showed he has a few tricks up his sleeve. He isn't just a fast athlete - he has a good football brain. He does small things well like drawing contact from defenders to open up options.

Fisher - great to see a natural forward unleashed again.

Betts has benefitted from his demotion as has Teague. Betts is dangerous again and Teague is back to his best.

Scotland might be able to escape the axe if he keeps performing as he did today. I didn't see anything of Livo's opponent.

What about that appalling decision by the boundary umpire when he called it out of bounds (from the other side of the ground) when Scotland was a metre inside the boundary. The positive: we won't have to worry about that fool again this season.

Fev having a bad day is a positive. We can now get away with playing him in the VFL next week. That will help in our "don't or die" match against the Hawks.

Agree with everyone.

Did anyone else think that Fisher has actually added a yard or two of pace? He was utterly brilliant today.

Simpson: the commentators were actually getting excited when he got the ball and started running. I haven't heard that with a Carlton player for a while.

Teague, Scotland and McGrath were back to the sort of form we expect from them.

The biggest positive for me was the lack of capitulation. Unlike the past few weeks when Freo got 2-3 easy ones on the run I thought we'd drop the bundle but credit to the boys they plugged away and ended up with even scoring shots.

THE UMPIRING WAS PRETTY MUCH THE WORST I HAVE SEEN IT IN YEARS. ALL OUR FORWARDS WERE GETTING DRAGGED DOWN, ITS NO WONDER FEV GETS NOWHERE.  Denis should do a Paul Roos or Grant Thomas and go and see the umpires boss; not that he would, because Denis is not a fricken whinger (I guess that's another positive).

Big positive, we had a crack today.

But it seemed every time we started to get a run we got crucifed by the bloody yellow grubs.

Saw what our future holds with the kids, & for the first time in weeks I am unhappy that we lost but I can see light at the end of the tunnel & I don't feel like slitting my wrists.

BTW give Matty Lappin a three year deal.

Dont give Lappin a 3 year deal.

Fisher looked quicker but he appeared to have a large slow turning circle - fair enough coming back from a knee reco - will get better.

I hate gerard healy

I loved Fish's kicking action today.

How fluent was it?!?! No more stuttering run ups or funny extensions of his kicking leg.

Was poetry in motion.

It;s contract time SSSHHH

of course Campo did the leadership thing.

I saw him pull Betts aside numerous times and have what looked like reassuring words - he also did it to Brendan , Kade and Prenda.

Also got in and did a bit of congratulating at times.

Just showed more team stuff.

eddie wasn't quite simmo today, but as I keep saying, he's only 18.

simmo v eddie in a 50 mtr sprint, who would win?,

look, we saw something from simmo today that excited us. he was not even on the radar 18 mths ago, but has stepped up because he has the ability but lacked the size and requisite confidence.

simmo is 21, eddie is 18 and I reckon eddie is a more naturally gifted footballer.

starting to get some genuinely pacy players at last

simmos steps up in 2005, eddie in 2006

We actually attacked and were not too defense - our best two players were two young ones - brilliant game back after reconstruction -one of the best Ive seen by brad fisher and carrazzo - contnues to get more than 20 possessions in a game - when was the last time two of our young players got more than 20 possessions in a game
When was the last time we kicked that many goals without hitnall or fevola kicking any
Difference from a few weeks ago is that second tiers who were good last year played to their ability - teague and scotland - probably both had their best games for the season
Whilst obviously not a backman yet I thought waite also did a good job today when forwar and cant you see a potent attack of fisher fevola and waite developing nicely and imagine if we break even in the midfield if we have guys that can take marks like that
Livo very solid game on mcpharlin and surely over the last 6-8 weeks he has won over the doubters
Betts bryan and walker all were down but good to get another game under their belt
As for simpson looks good and breaks the lines - nice kicking for goal and hopefully once he gets more confident will win more of the ball

Room for improvement
Shocking tackling today really got brushed aside too easily by freo - must show more grunt like eddie tackles or waitewhere he tried to scalp the freo guy in the last quarter when he ducked
Must make more of opportunities - 3 shots after half time really would have put freo under the pump if we had kicked 2 of those
Need desparately ruck craft of french today we were slaughtered in the ruck
Need thorton back as soon as possible
Needmore skill- bring back houlihan

Carrazzo's job in shutting down Haselby (and winning a stack of the ball himself) was first class.

Simmo was great. Now starting to look really comfortable.

We really need some genuine athletic key position height. Here's hoping we drift Mitchell Clark.
