I don't think they can hide behind 'It was a good, uplifting talk' anymore...

To me, Collo's barely disguising the disgust he has for the attitude of the players and seems to be suggesting that they all owe the club for sticking by them when they've produced so much heartache.....

Collins Had a Heart bypass didn't he not a brain bypass. Does he realise the club is trying to snare a disgruntled out of contract player from another club (Synbads blackmail pick). If I was that player and saw these comments about past Carlton champions and the way they are being treated there would be no way I would be talking to the Blues. I think it is time Mr Collins headed back to the dome and stayed there.

On the contrary, I think it is showing that the club won't be pushed around and if any player is put off by these comments then I suggest they're not the type of character we need, be they current Carlton players or ones we may hope to attract.

I only care about two players on the list in that article - Walker and Waite.

dont say i dont give credit where credit is due.

im glad he is in the front foot about the player contacts. they would look stupid if they make such statements of "we will only offer 2 year contracts" and the start giving out 3 year contracts.

i want lappin to stay - reckon he has been a great servant of the club, but not if the club doesnt think it is right. Its on our terms or dont let the door hit you on the your ass on the way out.

Still i wouldnt mind seeing a trade of Whintall & Lappin to St.Kilda for Kosi and their 1st rounder (or possibly second rounder) IMO that would suit all parties.

Kosi would get a serious go at CHF with us and would be a great player to have in our forward line. Whitnall and Lappin would get a serious crack in the st kilda forward line and those 2 players could be what get the aints over the line in a premeirship.

that would be a very impressive forward line and near impossible to match up on. We could get some joy out of it as well knowing that 3 of the 6 they have in that forward line played for carlton.

Yes i know i left our Campo (delist if we cant trade) Lappin Whitnall (trade for Kosi) Kouta (pains me to say it but he has run his race) but that is the team i would love to see playing next year and surprise surprise it only involves 3 new players.

Collins is doing the right thing ...why wouldnt you take a hard line....we are on the bottom and going through our worst period in the history of the club. I expect my President to be making the tough calls and improving the list...in fact what he said is exactly what I want to hear.....

What a radical concept. Pay players what you think they are worth. No wonder some are upset.
Holiday is over at Carlton. Players cant expect the favourable treatment that Eliot dished out for his daughters favourite players. Perform and you will be rewarded, dont and you wont. Its a simple concept but some still dont understand.

A guy rang up SEN this morning and slagged off Campo and Lappin saying that them asking for 3 year deals the way they are plaing is a joke. Andrew Maher said that he thought Lappin looks burdened by the contract talk and he wished Carlton would give him the 3 year deal he deserves. Tim Watson interuppted to say he doesnt deserve it, at the age of 29 he isnt worth a 3 year deal and Maher quickly retractred.
Watching Lappin play this year, can you imagine what you could end up with by 2008.

How many teams could play 5 guys 188cm+ in their forwardline and backline for that matter?

We don't get enough of the detailed news up here to know this - but is either side prepared to discuss a 2 year contract with a 1 year option? Is this legal in AFL contracts??

I agree that we can't just cave, but surely there's more of a middle ground to be had in this matter?

Have you ever heard of being top heavy?

5 Players over 191cm in the forward line and 4 players over 190cm in the backline?

A 198cm Half-forward and a 197cm Half-back flanker just isn't believable.
If you take out O'Halphin and put Bryan in the ruck or bench then I agree a good looking side.

No one can "recruit" players from Brisbane while they have their 500k plus advantage in the salary cap. It is an impossibility. Sure, they might give away some of their dud players - but none of the required players eg michael and power could be allowed to leave that club with so much more money up their sleeve.

That thinking is flawed, that assumes that they have the 500K unallocated.

Fact is it might be allocated to other players.

We've shown with a shit team that we struggled to get below the 100% of salary cap mark. Why? becuase the funds were allocated.

Nah - that's a very naive view of what Brisbane are doing.... They have always managed to squeak players in by hammering them with the loyalty factor. I think that when you go from being 90% sure of being in the GF to as much of a chance as everyon else, that loses its impact.
As examples of that, Brown and Aka are both staying for so much less than what they could get elsewhere because they make some of that back in sponsorship chances by being big fish in a small pond....

Brisbane have shown in the past that they will lose players if they have to - then they'll develop someone else in their place, and expose the departed player's weaknesses when next they meet.

From what is being said up here - Power's staying, Akermanis is staying, but all other bets are 50/50 chances of leaving because they aren't getting upgraded contracts.....

Always held to the rule no more than 2 year contracts for any player over 25. And for anyone under 25, 3 as the max.

This dependence on snaring a disgruntled star is also misplaced. If the oppotunity arises then great, but be clear what the player is disgruntled about and that it will not 'infect' the rest of the group, but I wouldn't be staking the future of the club on it.
