yep - the move was a raging success.

good to see that with all those extra seats we had people filling them up.

but interesting to note, that with 16,000 people in attendance the club will LOSE money?

We would have got exactly the same at OO and made Money.

Come on people, time to try and shut me down once more.

This was the test to see if the move will pay dividedends and guess what it failed miserably.

The Prez? Here we go again....!!!
If you bothered going to the information nights you would have known the club ALWAYS said it will be 2007 before we were cash positive with our position....
The article says were ahead of budget overall.

Why would we have made a profit if we played that game anywhere else???

I dunno... cos how would you know if you would have got 12, 000 at optus.
But if you were a smart man youd understans you cant make decisions going into the future on the back of one game in isolation.... if you were a smart man....

Prez,

The club would have made money if the game was played at OO.

Now some questions for you.

If Carlton played its home game at OO against Hawthorn this year would they have got 48,000 people to attend? Would have it be on prime time TV?

Pick any home game we have played at Telstra and tell me what crowd we would have got if it was played at OO. Look it those game and what TV slot they got?

Good point, jbee and in anycase blame the AFL for fixturing these non-interest interstate games at the MCG, this is Demetrispew at his vindictive best co-ercing the MCC in giving up its Preliminary Final. Demetrispew has conveniently forgotten about the AFL's "ground of best fit" policy when it comes to game fixturing.

ive said all along that we shouldnt be playing Melbourne based team at OO due to the fact that we can get larger crowds playing elsewhere.

Interestate Teams at OO
Melbourne based teams at MCG

I think that's not a bad solution, however the AFL were never going to let us do that.

And the break-even at PP was never, and never will be 8K, no matter how many overpriced pies they eat, nor how many schooners they drink. I heard JE say it was more like 14-16K on Talking Footy some years back.

Having said that the AFL are vindictive bastards for fixturing our interstate games at the MCG, a crowd of 19000 isn't all too bad considering we are travelling very poorly and we probably wouldn't have got too many more if the game was at OO.

I would expect a crowd of around 30,000 at a future game against Freo at the MCG if we were a finals contender.

I'm a member and didn't attend last Sunday. The gate would have been the exact same if I did because I would not have payed anything. I don't believe these break even figures.

The Game that is exactly right!!!!
Gate fees have been already paid upfront when you buy a membership.
Which is a different higher membership than the one in circa 1999...and there are certainly more people with a membership today.
So how do you read figures??
How did they get to those figures???
Who gave us those figures???

Figures are no different to Jarusas stats.. you can make them say anything you like....

Exactly... whats the difference if another 10,000 Carlton paid up members walked threw the gates and scanned their memberships cards and sat down. How would that help the bottom dollar in gate receipts when they spent nothing to get in on the day..

The only thing I could see was if every one of those 10,000 members brought a pie and a drink (approx 8 bucks total) and contributed $80,000 to the Ron Evans Spotless fund. Maybe the club gets a kickback from every pie/drink sold..
