I voted Yes on one condition.....we don't play the Kangaroo's...how much would it piss them off if we got it and they weren't involved? :D

As mentioned I accept the issues involved with it being recognised as an extraordinarily significant day in the Christian calendar, however can we please raise the level of discussion on why it is a good or bad idea.

I don't think that there would be a significant number of players affected deeply enough to rule the idea out on the grounds they would/could not play.

I think that while some people would definitely stay away from the game, there would still be significant numbers of people willing to attend. Enough to make it worthwhile for the club to make it an annual event/tradition.

Games are played on Holy Thursday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, really, despite the significance of Good Friday is the fact games are played on these other significant days enough to suggest that a Good Friday fixture at least be seriously considered?

How is the opponent relevant? Or if it is could you please expand on who you would deem suitable/unsuitable and why.

I like the idea of the match, but would there be a point if it was the Bulldogs v Freo, for instance?
It has to be a genuine blockbuster.

Agreed. My angle with this poll is to try and make the fixture a permanent one that guarantees Carlton a big build up to big match, hence the poll question:

"Would you support a Good Friday (night) blockbuster involving Carlton?"

Maybe Good Friday isn't the best idea, but in thus day and age of clubs having "premium fixtures" can you believe that Melbourne and Sydney have one and we don't!

Hehe.......kinda acted before I read the question fully....I thought you meant a Good Friday match involving any club.

I did wonder why the question wasn't in the AFL board.....

oops.

From a marketing point of view it really should be a Saints vs Demons game.

What about players that have religious beliefs?

I actually included that in my post. They are the one's who would not have a choice with playing so if they were against it then fair enough. But as pointed out by others, Greeks, Serbs, Jews etc have footy played on days that coincide with their religious celebrations & they have the choice as to whether or not they attend.

Surprise, Surprise.... Nah.

I also do not attend on orthodox good friday too.

And I'll throw away my membership if Carlton is leading the push.

Some things are just more important to me than footy.

I have no doubt it will happen though.... one day

Just stating the fact CB. I know I'd cop some flack over it, but each of us have some principles that we value, and sometimes you just have to take a stand.

In all honesty, I would suggest that it will happen sooner rather than later, and quite frankly, I recon it would be a financial success too.

Like the PP/OO move, it'll alienate some, and probably encourage others.

In short, the club can do what it thinks best, and I'll do what I think is best.

Yeah. I respect you for your position as I know you would not act that way flippantly.

im greek orthodox not religious but its more cultural... and it would effect my easter once every 4 or 5 years... i still wouldnt want to see football during easter.
if we cant entertain ourselves with family one week of a footy season theres definitely something wrong with us.

Well, as mentioned we play games on Holy Thursday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, and people seem to manage. Should we have no football at all on this weekend?

Channel Seven would be committed to the appeal and I doubt they'd let Ten get a Friday night game.
