hi all. I'm a big Kouta fan, but I must ask, is he the right man to lead the team? Is he a better player without the captaincy?

Hi Koutamagic,

I tend to agree with you. Kouta is a great player and has been great for many years. I have enjoyed him as captain and believe he has done a pretty good job considering the circumstances.

It probably isn't a bad idea to take the captaincy from him so that

a) we can reduce the pressure on him and problong his career (let's hope he plays for anpther two years at least)

b) we can blood someone new with the captaincy ala Stephen Kernahan

some players can handle it, others cant.

there are many many great footballers that would be no good as captain.

Judd, Akermanis to name a few - just dont think they have what it takes to be Captain. Unfortunatly Kouta is the same.

While a great player - there are some that are just born to be leaders.

Voss has shown it for years. Brown will be captain and follow in the footsteps of Voss. Ben Cousins is another one - just a natural leader.

ANother i think would make an unreal captain but was never given a chance - Glenn Archer - he would go to battle for his teammates and his team mates like wise.

Those on our list that could be a good captain

Throton, Waite or Stevens - beyond that im not sure.

I was at the St.Kilda game and saw Kouta get pushed around by Barker (a man half his size) and he did not have the grunteto stand up for himself.. I was particularly disappointed with that and thought that was a sign of weaknes, esp from our captain... hurts me to write this..

There's 2 ways a captain can lead. Through aggression and passion ala Voss, or skill and courage - Hird.

Now, I loooove Kouta, but..............?

Heard Parko say last night on White Line Fever that the great man would consider retirement at the end of this year if his last 2 months weren't up to scratch.

He would walk away with-out doubt one of the clubs most selfless champions if that were to happen.

I wonder the rammifications for his management (spit  ) if that happened? Could Allison (spit  ) sue Kouta for breach of contract?

thanks for that, I missed white line fever last night..

it would be sad if he retired @ end of this year. I think he should play out next year without the burden of captaincy. I have no doubt that his recent form drop has something to do with our lack of wins in the ruck (no Barnaby).

i wouldnt say its a sign of weakness - i just think kouta doesnt have that side of him as apart of his game.

again - some players do and some dont

Throton is one of his first few games was giving it to Glen Jacovich

Some have it some dont. Walker is another example - reckon he has a nasty streak about him

Prez, looking back at Kouta's career, u r prob right, he is not that type of player.. nevertheless, I was hoping he would show a bit of strength and not get pushed around so easily.

Waite is another one with a bit of fire in his belly I think.

Thornton has it...like the Prez said...gave it straight back to Jakovich who was a intimidating player......Kouta doesnt have it, Stevens doesnt either,
thats why it would be nice to get Kosi who has a bit of leadership about him and seems to rally the troops at Stkilda...

If either of those two came to Carlton, they would be Captain.

After Cousins, dont be surprised to see Judd Captain.

Kouta's one of the best players we'll see for a long time.

What he's not though, is a great leader.

He's a leader's weapon. The guy a great on-field motivator uses to pump the rest of his team up, to make them all perform out of their skins.

Kouta's just too damn nice, Too shy, Too quiet to be a truly great captain.

But I will never hold that against him.

or if we had Hamill.. oh well, can't turn back time.

I think Stevens is the only one that could take it on next year until our younger guys develop and mature into the captaincy role in a few years time.
