The only indoor stadiums with natural turf that "work" are those where the turf is re-layed frequently or like one in Japan(?) where the entire playing surface is on tracks that move it out into the sunlight between events.
The guy from Strathayr said not but a few weeks ago that turf will not grow there, but can only be managed in how fast it dies.

What it boils down to is poor stadium design with the people running the place unable to find a solution that is financially feasible to them IMO. Constant turf replacement or special lights would surely make the place run at a loss.

100% correct.

All we'd like is for the Iraqi Information Minister to concede this fact while we continually search for an answer.

Its too expensive to replace the turf every 3 weeks, the japan idea would work other than for the fact we can't lay the tracks to roll it out during the week now.

Arse covering 101.
Admit it's substandard and everyone who has done an ankle or knee will have their hand out for compensation.

Just wait until the new stand is completed at the MCG.

the MCG is going to have the same problem in winter on the northern side because the stand is going to block out all of the sun..

The cost of replacing the tuff at the dome must be enormous, wonder how much that costs the clubs that use it as there home ground...

Do they actually foot the bill though?
Maybe they'll institute a turf levy on tickets to matches there, like airlines have a fuel levy ;)

Collins = "There is nothing wrong with Telstra Dome"
Grant Thomas ( Cassius) "Kosi has agreed to terms were just waiting on the right time to announce it"

If that's true Syn, that's the best news I've heard for a long time.

Look Kosi might never come to Carlton... but the fact remains he has not signed each week he goes out there his price goes up and StKilda have to do something about it.
They might even come to us and offer us Goddard for our first pick to make room for Kosi.. Then we can tell them to go forth and multiply.. then they might ask for pick three... wed give them the bird...

Look were in a good position either way.

I can assure you people we will do the best possible to shake the tree and bring MORE THAN ONE QUALITY footballer to the club.

It will never be any good.
Majority of elite players will be a spent force by 28 playing home games on this surface.

Bloody whinging players.
How many serious injuries due to the surface at TD this year. A big fat ZERO.
Slipping players is a farce but not dangerous. Its not going to get fixed this year so why the constant whingeing.
Maybe if The AFL put some money into "their" stadium rather then giving the players a bonus pay rise out of the CBA, we might get a solution.
Anyone remember the dung called Moorabbin in the 80s, or Junction Oval or Western Oval.

Just play football and stop whingeing

Wake up guys...Collins is saying that the surface is suitable for football

Don't think Collo ever said that it was the best playing surface, just that it's a surface that footy can be played on!
(which would be what's in the contract with the AFL 'The Dome agrees to provide a stadium suitable for palying blah blah that is in keeping with current and existing practices...blah blah...)

So Collins is correct...he's running a business and doesn't want to spend squillions replacing grass or adding lights if he doesn't have to.
The AFL should define what they require IF they believe it should be improved.

Perhaps the AFL should use OO oval into the contract as the quality benchmark for the turf.....Joking!

Surely somewhere in Melbourne there is a drug dealer who can give Collo a tip.....after all, they can grow grass inside!

That's what I was thinking too.

Some of these guys (I've heard  ) have got very sophisticated lighting systems to enable their "herbs" to be grown indoors.

Couple of points here.

1. I would hope no ground in the 21st century will ever be the same as Moorabbin, Junction oval, etc...
2. How can you play proper football if you keep slipping over or are wary about hitting the ground the wrong way. :? Notice the rotation of the ball or the float of the ball when the roof is closed.
3. Telestra Dome takes 30% more out of an individual's body compared to any other stadium. 30% is nothing to laugh about when you put 5 years of AFL rigours in some-one's body, let alone 10 years.
4. Players have every right to whinge about their "work environment" , especially when it's their sole income and they are full time. Sure you would whinge about your office if it didn't have "heating/aircon".

WTF? Has there been a study published that I've missed or is this an arbitrary figure you plucked out of the air?

You're saying the roof being closed affects the air inside the stadium, especially the air pressure??

We know you hate TD, Surrey, but aren't you drawing a long bow there?

Don't know who made that figure up, but that was the figure Luke Darcy mentioned in an interview on National TV. Players association was also present acknowledging the figure.

KK, whether I hate the place or not has no bearing on this argument. Don't know how many games you have watched played on the ground, but you cannot tell me that the ball reacts the same way as it normally would on other stadiums. Just an observation.
