Lead item on tonight's Channel 9 news in Melbourne features 3 Carlton footballers (Stevens, Scotland and Whitnall) who are believed to have been interviewed by police after an underworld figure (an associate of Mick Gatto) who they were drinking with was bashed. Happened a few weeks ago in an Ivanhow bar, no suggestion they've done anything illegal, and they were interviewed as witnesses not as suspects. Doesn't seem to be particularly worthy of being the day's top news story, but stated that we are now the second club to be publicly linked to gangland figures after the Eagles. Excellent publicity not.

The club has issued a release stating that yes, the players were there, but as they had nothing to do with the actual incident - there will be no further comment.

Can someone explain why that's bad news?

It's not like they were involved in anything shady, a la Ben Cousins etc....

They were actually performing a civic duty, helping polics with their enquiries, as possible witnesses.

Smells like good news to me.

Gotta Love Channel Eddie.
They have run with this, had eight bounces, balked and then blazed away from 70 metres out.
Tony Jones' hair will turn brown soon, once it comes out from Eddie's.....

Exactly.
More bullshit from Tony Jones.

They have done nothing wrong.
All they did was have a beer with a bloke who was bashed a few hours later.

How is this bad news?? They had a drink with a man that was allegedly assaulted and they allegedly witnessed said assault? They dont appear to be involved so what is the problem?

So would Mrs. Murphy think it's good news or bad news?

Well they have Chris Johnston....

But anyway.. i reckon its good news as if it were bad news they would have dont a bee line for Nick Stevens and given it to him .
In the current climate id take that result...
