well is he?

I dont know what it is about the kid, but the three weeks he has been in we have looked a completly different side.

He has been great for us ever since returning to the side.

He's important for our forward structure in that opposition backmen no longer have the luxury of double or triple teaming Fevola.

its a stretch i agree - suggesting he is our most important player. but since he has come back into the side, we just look better all over the park.

With T-Bird going down, whitnall has gone back into defence, and our forward line hasnt skipped a beat, infact you could almsot say that they are performing at a far better rate than they have for sometime.

Fevola, Fisher & Waite and to a lesser extent T-Lo all now demand that they must be manned up on. Throw in the likes of betts and a resting midfield player and suddenly our entire forward line is almost in a one on one situation.

Worst comes to worst - the opposition drop a spare man in defence to counter it and that leaves us with Whitnall playing in the defence unmanned?

The three games he has played we have kicked more than 100 points each time.

Just a win win with Fisher in the team.

Big Barnaby is the bloke we have missed the most this season.Physical presence and for once we did not get smashed in the ruck.
Fisher and Waite really have those long arms and seem to take them out in front with sticky hands. Hit the gym boys like Fev has and take the next step to beconing elite players.

If only Norman had your attitude Fish. Your kicking was poor before your injury and now you are slotting goals from the 50 easily. Tremendous attitude from him. Denis wrapped him up when he was in the reserves and I thought that Pagan was just carrying on but I guess it shows he knows what he is talking about.

He is without doubt the best one grab pack mark player in the team. When Fev and Waite are in the forward line it means he gets the third best defender and he should beat that bloke convincingly most of the times.

I think he's one of the best in the leauge.

Exciting player, and mega important to team balance.

I liked a few of Waites as well on the weekend. Good leap and extension of the arms. Fisher is younger and less physically developed and could really be anything. A decent pick in the 70s I would say.

He's got that uncanny ability to get his hands on the ball no matter where he finds himself in a marking contest which at the very least will bring the ball to ground. I'm really looking forward to the next couple of seasons when he's filled out. A bit of size/strength coupled with his marking ability will cause headaches for opposing backmen.

2002 draft

Pick 1 Brendan Goddard

Pick 45 Kade Simpson

Pick 72 Brad Fisher

What is wrong with this?

awesome work brother.

living proof, that the No 1 pick doesnt mean anything. I would take both Simpson and Fisher over Goddard any day of the week. Wells is a better talent than Goddard and he went ... drum roll please ... No 2.

Goddard should be a very good player but I think Grant Thomas has broken him.

dont disagree - but it goes to prove the point, that a No.1 draft pick doesnt mean they are going to be a super star or be the difference between winning or losing a flag.

i would love to get the first draft pick, but not at the expense of "wanting to lose games" to do it.

If we lose games and finish last, then so be it, but if we throw games to finish last to secure the first pick, is when this game is no longer a game that i choose to follow.

Everyone is quick to put the boots in to Goddard.

Some of you posters need to open your eyes alittle. AFL is not about peaks and troughs in performance it's about getting on the park week in week out and being consistant week in week out. He may not be Judd or Wells but he would walk into any AFL team any weekend.

Since being drafted he has basically played in the AFL since Round 1, 2003 and out of 61 odd home and away games I bet he has played near on 55 games.

This year he is averaging close to 16 possessions a game from the HBF with a high of 26 and low of 11. He rarely wastes a disposal and can kick 50 of one step to a running player. He has his faults but there aren't many. He is 4th for StKilda in possessions, only behind onballers Hayes, Delsanto and Ball and he is 6th in tackles. If CFC had a 20 year old HBF with those figures, that we could pencil in every week, we would be over the moon.

Regards Cazzesman

Calling Jarusa... please supply the break down of players games v's draft pick.

I'm sure you'll find top 10 players play more games than 70+ players.

Sure there is talent to be found, Hamill, Grant, Hird, Fisher were all late picks.

They are lottery wins though.

fair point you make Cazzesman

and i wasnt bagging Goddard as such, as i reckon he is a handy player indeed. But he isnt and i dont think we will become a super star of the game.

But the unrealistic expectations on the kid we get with our first pick if it is no.1. is fraught with danger IMO. Unless he is an absolute gun he is going to be considered a failure in some posters eyes.

Would i be dissappointed if we had Goddard? Not at all, would be rapted. Still think Wells is better though, but i wouldnt be comparing him and his imput to our team like some people do thinking that our No.1. if we get him is going to have to be as good as Nick Reiwoldt for him to be a success and that is what some here have already built our No.1. pick up to be.

Says it all. How many players do we have where we know if we go to them one on one there's a better than 50% chance we'll win it????!

Also don't forget Fish's go in the midfield...got at least two centre clearances yesterday (possibly more)....
