i dont care if it was one or a hundred people said it.

what alot of you "losers" are implying that is if we dont get a priority and the first pick, that we are forever going to remain floating between 9th and last.

I dont see it that way. Players can become anything. Who would you currently rate as a better footballer?

Lets have a look at 2002 Draft

Goddard Pick No 1
Daniel Merrett Pick No 30
Kade Simpson Pick No 45
Brad Fisher Pick No 72

Out of that list of 4 - there are 3 players i would want in my side before Goddard.

it was pointed out in another post - but i thought it valuable info to be repeated here again. Pick No 1 does not guarantee you anything.

please note - when i say "losers" i refer to you guys wanting to "lose" to get the priority and not to you guys personally.

I reckon the words "Pick Number 1" & "Carlton" will catch in the bastard's throat.

and this is why i find it hard to believe the stance you guys take.

i want my team to win every game they ever play.

funnily enough - the shit midfielders we have, tore Richmonds apart yesterday.

you guys are so determined for them to fail so that we can get these early draft picks that it has clouded your opinions of our players.

Carrots and AB looked like damn fine on-ballers to me yesterday and both are still very young as far as dominant footballers go. Simpson is coming along nicely as well.

I guess i just like to win games of football.

What type of supporter am i that wants to watch their team win.

and i will say it again, i would love to get Murphy, if we finish last and get a priority pick then so be it, but i would never, and i hope the club never has the same attitude as some of you clowns.

Winning the battle but loosing the war!

In chess, you have to sacrifice some of your peices in order to gain an advantage. 2005 is shot. I'm willing to sacrifice the rest of the season in order to better prepare our future.

I hope our club does not have short sighted management, 'cause I want us to go forward. And the first step is to get some TALENT!

a slightly different view point.

we sit 10th - 1 game out of the eight, 1 game above 16th and its the final round of the season. If we win we will go eight and play West Coast over there or if we lose we will go last.

what would you guys want?

i know i would be wanting us to win regardless of what happened.

Another brilliant hypothetical along the lines of your brilliant "we drafted Chris Judd at 1 and Nick Reiwoldt at 2 but they died the day after the National Draft" example.

Geoffrey Robertson please move over.

to win too.

But that situation is as ficticious as your Pick 1 and 3 being injured in a car crash.

Great minds think alike Agro.

Maybe I spend too much time with Greeks and Cypriots.

please explain to me and the rest of us that want to see their team winning, that my hypothetical is any different from your hypothetical assuming that if we lose all our games and we get the first pick that said pick is going to turn into a super star?

great response that, the "becuase" argument is a great response for someone that doesnt have an answer to a serious question.

think you guys are warming to Synbad's style of response.

if that is the way you choose to go about it, so be it, i dont respond to crap like that.

if you dont want to anwser it becuase you cant, fine, then stop posting the shite you have been about losing is better than winning.

i cant even believe we having this flower argument.

Putting on my Captain Obvious hat:

"In life there are no guarantees in anything. That includes the AFL draft."

By finishing last you hedge your bets by getting TWO top 5 picks (instead of one), you get to choose who you want before anyone else... and you get 1st pick in the PSD *repeats ad nauseum*

Statistics via footy geek:

Draft Numbers
1-10 11-20 21-30 31-40 41-50 51-60 60+
AFL Average 48 41 30 27 24 18 16

Notice how the numbers fall away....

http://footygeek.com/content/view/1894/81/

or how about this:

Image

Apart from a few spikes, the trend is downward.

I would also say that figures in round 3 would be inflated based on father/son picks who would have gone top 10 being picked up later.

again - the PSD hypothetical.

who is out their that is a-grade talent that we can get via the PSD?

Kosi - nope he signed
Power - nope he signed
Brown - nope he is going to sign

Getting Stevens when we did was a fluke. Cant see anything like that happening again.

Didn't use "because" as an argument - just said I couldn't be bothered because I would get more sense talking to a 2 year old.

Anyway shouldn't you be busy designing a building ..............................................

that may fall over in a year or two.

lets get pick 91 & 106 then if we going to base losing games on draft picks. Pick 2, 3 or 4 seemed to be okay as well.
