I'd have him as a HFF. Let him roam up the ground a bit, can even float down back when he feels the need. I think a role similar to Richo's on the wing, except i'd play him a little closer to goals than that. More or less the same style of play tho. Wouldn't play him as a KP forward, FF & CHF have fairly distinct roles in the team & are crucial to the teams structure. I wouldn't ask Waite to play in that manner. I'd much prefer him to have more freedom out on the field. The same principle tells me he was better suited to playing loose in the backline (or at least peeling off the 3rd forward) rather than matching up 1 on 1 against the monster forwards.
Couldn't have said it better if I tried.

I voted midfield (wing) based on similar theory I guess. I think he can be a great link player because he is such a hard match up a la Richo ..... effective because he will outmark his direct opponent 9/10 and cover the ground/carry the ball thru midfield; but also have the ability to drift fwd and take a big grab near goal; or drift back & help out/shore up the defence when it is under pressure. We might occassionally get hurt by his direct opponent but I think you have to back Waitey to be more damaging than his opponent.
The exact team structure used will determine whether he is 'named' wing or hhf but I think our intent is essentially the same.
