Geez the way you talk B2005 we have the best list in the competition and huge depth hey B2005 i reckon the blues should pass on the draft yer right we dont need to inject anynew blood in the team

Have you watched the season at all i dont mean last match but watched it proper ...do you speak to recruiters ... people ... listen to media ... some are BS but there are many people who make sense ... The position the club in makes this season just one of the ones the best senario is to finish bottom ... IMO that is just what i think. Maybe we wont and i am not gonna stop backing the best team in the AFL but i can sure as hell see the benefits of finishing last THIS YEAR

I have never said we go out and tank next season
I have never said tank last year

I just think if there is anyway we can finish last either because we are not good enough which we arnt in the current make up of the team ... but i think a few tweeks some new blood ... good picks a,d smart trades .. Some cutting of the list and next year i believe we will be much more competative.
i hope the side goes all out to make up for the tripe they delivered this year.
I even see a lot of positives in this season even though i think it has been poor in most parts ..

Players like Waite / Simpson / Carrots have all stepped up one level... We have some great kids in the VFL. some sparks of talent in some other players.....All i want to see us inject into this some potential new blood. The season is where it is at and the best senario is for the club to bottom out ... Call it pay back for having our prime picks taken from us when we last got the spoon... THat will make me feel better... This was what DP was going to get when he signed on .. he didnt get those picks so this year he will

Okay then we need picks 1 and 3 and if Murphy is the best option or John smith then we take that player but if it makes you feel better we need to get the best talent .. potentially that is pick 1 if we get pick 3 as well well thats 2 in the top 3 picks .. if Murph is the best pick we get Murph at pick 1 if somoen else is better at pick 1 we get that person instead

Have I seen us play this season Wolfe? I've been to every game in Victoria and at each one I've cheered us on and hoped that we'd win, unfortunately most times I've left the footy on the whole disappointed. And guess what - when I'm at the footy or not I want Carlton to win the games, that's just me and I couldn't have it any other way. I will go to the last four games and hope that we win them all Wolfe because that's just the way I am and the day I don't want Carlton to win I won't go to the games because what's the point?!?

You go on Wolfe about wanting us to finish last but not tank to do so! What rubbish mate! Come on at the end of the year if we tank and finish with 4 wins or not tank and finish with 4 wins you couldn't care less and neither could most supporters because we would have the PP and another early pick. There's no use trying to act all noble and say "I want us to lose but not tank" that's just a cover up if you ask me, losing is losing, you don't "half-lose" for losing honourably, whether you tank or not you'll still see a PP so why does it matter how it's done to you if what you want to badly is to add young talent to the list Wolfe? Eh?

You say you believe we'll be competitive next season...what if we're not though? Should we milk the season for what it's worth and aim to finish low again? What about in 2007 and 2008? What if we're not competitive then? A few kids will be great but they themselves won't turn the ship around! When will it be ok not to finish last Wolfe? When Synbad or pj click their fingers? Can't you see it's a very dangerous attitude.

Well all i can go on is what i have seen this year and where we have headed. This is the only year that i have thought this team belongs at the bottom and you are right at this stage of the season this year its best senario is too finish last. Nobody here has the influence to where we will finish you want us to win as many games for the rest of the year i want this team to have the best possible spark in 2006 we both want the same thing i think. Have you ever heard of the theory go back one step to go 2 steps forward.. It works in business it works in most senarios.. Call us bottoming out to go one step back but jumping next year 2 steps forward next year. If that happens i believe all supporters will enjoy 2006 more Now you are right getting these picks / better option to trade / first choice in PSD are not 100% they will potentially be better for us but they will give us our best chance to improve in 2006

Anyway we agree to disagree - I have never hoped the team would finish last never wanted the team to finish last and never want it to ever attempt to be in that territory again. But i am a realist and this i know this team has been through a very hard year and THE BEST SENARIO is to finish last if we dont so be it .. but for the good of the club and too help it improve quicker if there has been any year that i have seen in 35 years of following the Blues it is this year.

Cant you see you keep changing your nick to a date when were back in hope and so far you have gone straight through the new millenium hoping????

Cant you just see how daft that is????
Cant you see that nothing beats talent?
Cant you see that when you Jarusa and BM were telling us all about the Geelong model you were going to all fall flat on your faces again????

Cant you see the best side on paper in the AFL is actually a team that was assembled by finishing low?

WELL GO GET SOME GLASSES TO LOOK AT THE WORLD THROUGH!!!!....

Another Reason B2005 this is the best year to finish last is that there are only 2-3 potential top line picks and 1 is speculated by recruiters to be stand out. If there were 5 and all where even heck it wouldnt be such a issue next year if we finish higher up which i do hope we do and if its pick 7 or 8 from what we know of next years draft its still a good pick if we finish in the 8 i really dont care what pick we get... and if we are competative but falter next year and get PP again so be it. But the club needs something good to come to it. Now i dont think someone will pay our tax bill .. A good average player would be okay but this club has been kicked in the guts for most of the year ... we need a Delidio / Cooney type kid... get some positive hype in the club .... have something good to talk up for 2006... Maybe a good trade as well or steal something great in the PSD .... It will put a positive spin for 2006 and after the year we have had Any positives we can get to kick start 2006 we need in spades

If Murphy's goes North and the Hawks take Ellis with the first pick, will you be happy with Hurn? I would and all the hype about these kids is ridiculous since Kevin Sheehan thinks Varcoe, Ellis and Pfeiffer would be his top 3. And if you asked him again he had have 6 other players contending for the top 3. :?

not the best side.

there is a vast vast difference between the two.

St Kilda has the best list "on paper"

but the Eagles have the best side by a country mile, if they had a decent full forward i.e. someone like Fev, they would be unstoppable for the next 5 years at least.

St Kilda is a manufactured team, manufactured by the AFL, while arguably having the best list on paper, they are far from the best team in the game.

and it proves alot of of what some of us say is true. it takes more than 1st round draft picks to have a good side capable of winning a premeirship.

St Kilda has a good full forward. Maybe the Eagles and the Saints should merge.

As I have posted in an earlier thread, the ideal outcome for the rest of the year is....

beat the Bummers (2-zip)
draw with the Filth (no PP for Eddiewood)
the Dawks to somehow fluke a win
be competitive in every game

We can have our PP cake and eat some wins along the way 8)

Yesterday I posted a response and said that Cooney (pick 1) is far better than Walker (pick 2) (based on his midfield destruction of Brisbane on the weekend)

Therefore this justifies going for the priority pick. Pick number 1 is better than 2. Then I thought about how Hawthorn overlooked Judd for pick one a few years back.

That must be the worst decision of all time in the draft - or close to it. So a pick 2 can be better than a pick 1 (I am not talking about nose picks either by the way)

Then i thought about Livingston going at pick 4 vs someone like Carazzo - who wasn't even a top 30 pick and how much better Carazzo is compared to Livingston.

Is it better to win after all? - i really don't know anymore. it is all too confusing.

Let's not forget when Judd was drafted he had about 5 kilos of tape on each of his dodgy shoulders. IIRC he had had both shoulders reconstructed before being drafted, so little wonder Hawthorn and St Kilda were a bit wary. Anyone can be a draft expert after the event.

finally someone that gets it.

regardless of what happens this year we are going to get top 10 talent.

but IMO i think alot of the "Pro Losers" are already expecting to much from the kids we will get with our first few picks. I would love to have pick 1 & 3, but i dont wont to "try to lose" to get it. But even if we did get them, i would hope that they almost dont play in the first year, or very small patches a.k.a. Jordan Russell this year, Kade Simpson over the last three years etc.. and allow them to grow into the game.

Getting these kids are not going to turn our season around next year, but also getting the top 10 draft kids doesnt mean they are going to be star. THey are more than likely going to be, but alot of people have already built the kids up to something i dont think it possible for them to achieve.

Just on comparing StKilda's model to Geelong's model...don't be surprised if Geelong beats StKilda on Friday.

So you're telling me Prez that in a couple of years time when the talented St Kilda boys have bulked up, matured and grown in class (where the Eagles are at the moment), they won't be able to smash the Eagles? You really think the Eagles would dominate for 5 years with a key forward?

I can't wait for Monday.

Carlton are shit we need priority picks. Sack Simmo, Sack Bentick, Sack Whitnall, Sack Kouta, Sack Fevola.

or

Carlton are killing themselves, sack Pagan for winning against Port, now we won't get Marc Murphy and we will be doomed for life.

:D

if st.kilda doesnt do anything in 2 years - that team wont be able to stick together, they have to much talent and the salary cap will hit hard in a few years time.

And yes - the Eagles are that good that if they had a quality full forward i reckon they could achieve what Brisbane did from 01-03 without too much concern from other teams.

On paper they have two number 1 draft picks, Riewoldt who is a star and Goddard who is struggling.

Kosi and Ball as number 2 picks. Stars.

The Clarke boys at 5 & 8, neither of whom have set the world on fire yet, nor do they look like developing into out and out champions.

The only other players drafted under pick 16 are Brooks (picked at 15 by Port traded for pick 6 & 31) who is just okay, Dal Santo was picked at 13 but that pick was received in return for Barry Hall, Aaron Fiora was a number 3 pick by Richmond...handy player but nothing special, Lenny Hayes a pick 11 but he's almost 26 years old, Hudghton pick 15 but he's 29 years old, Luke Penny at 14 by the Bulldogs...okay ruckman, nothing outstanding.

So by finishing low they have three stars and a bunch of mid standard players, many of whom were low draft picks by other clubs and on-traded to StKilda. The only low draft pick used as a trade was pick 6...which formed part of getting the uninspiring Brooks to the club.

They traded well for Dal Santo, but where they finished on the ladder for that trade was irrelevant reallly.

Take out Kosi, Riewoldt and Ball....would the Saints be able to challenge for a premiership?
