I'd freaking hope so...

If I could just add an observation to this. Walker's first pre-season with us showed how good his skills were. We all know Elwood watches the games and knows what he's talking about, but Walker's skills WERE top notch. Brilliant at training, always right where needed (as distinct from the rabble!) . Therefore... soemthing has effected him:

1. pressure from opposition - most of his shanks come from unpressured kicks so I don't buy this.
2. pressure from inside. I really believe this. Walker needs to slow down a little when disposing of the ball, take the time to make the kick count.

I think with some added maturity, not practice, his skills will come to the fore.

Im getting sick of the walker discussions. Once he gets 50 -60 games then we can discuss how good/bad he is. Untill then just let the KID settle down and get used to AFL. It is a lot differant and faster to what he was playing in before.

Him dominating in the VFL can only be a good sign.

Spot on, Molsey.

He does everythign right up until he disposes the ball.
He kicks the ball at the same pace he picks it up at.
Needs to cool the jet engines for a second or two and then kick the ball.

Denis has said it time and time again.
We are a young team with young players. The reason for Carlton's incosistency is the young players. INCONSISTENCY IS A SIGN OF YOUTH.
Andrew Walker is young and will become better with age.

i had the excact same problem earlier in the year with my footy. I am similar to walks in that we are both long strining runners and a long stride when at full sprint is 1 -1.5 meters. It is bloody hard to drop the ball right when your running that fast.

Slowed down at trainng for a few weeks and the problem as fixed.

IMO - i think its unfair to pass judgement on players until they have reached the 75 - 100 game mark. Its not until then you really know what you have.

Indeed, look at Livingston, his first 20 games werent flash, but he is starting to be super reliable for us down back with his last 20 games. By the time he reaches the 75-100 game mark i think he will become one of the first on the sheet every week.

Walker is the same - we expect too much of players when they are still young (walker is 19) and has only played 20-30 games. I wont judge Walker until 2007 or 2008 to see if he has been a failure or success.

Comparing him to Judd is unfair also - i cant recall any player ever, coming into the game like he has. He isnt once in a generation, he is a once only player i.e. Bradman type.

Good points

Yep.
Makes a huge difference.
I wonder if any of the coaches have pointed this out to him?

Cooney, Walker, Sylvia, Griffen, McLean
As it stands right now, Walks is sitting at #5 on that list.
I agree that he has the talent to become an elite player, however at the moment, he is no more then a fringe player in a very ordinary side. NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Based on talent and potential, Walker is in our top 5
Based on performance, he staggers somewhere between 15 and 25.
Lets be honest, we ALL expected far more from him by now, and protecting him by throwing up countless excuses for his sub-par perfromances isnt going to help.
Tagging is not an excuse for poor performance, it was a punishment for poor performace.
He wasnt dropped in order to have a rest because he's been working so hard, rather the coaching staff thought they would get more out of another player.
I love Tex, and i do believe he will be one of our best and most important players in the future. However, we CANNOT keep protecting him. Stop with the excuses...and then maybe Walks will recognise that the onus is squarely on himself to lift his game

I dont know why our expectations were so high from him this year. He is only a kid. I must be the only one who is happy that he hasnt been thrown to the dogs but instead he is been given a good apprentiship.

I'd say that is the point. Shame he missed the win though.

Why is Griffen in there and not Farren Ray. Just curious...

Walkz is Carlton through and through.

Give the guy a break!

Why put your energy into worrying about another kid who isn't on our list?

The guy just finished school last year! Still a teenager. It's all about small steps, and footy is a journey. Sometimes things take their time. Patience people.

Small steps, small steps...

There it is, people.

The all mighty Locke has called for a cease on discussing Andrew Walker.

Griffen is from a different draft, Farren ray was #4 with those boys.

Lighten about about Walks, different players develop at different speeds. Give the guy a break. if he was playing with St.Kilda he'd be averaging 15-20 posetions a game.

It's easy to forget that he's about a year younger than those other guys.
Cooney was already playing senior footy in the SANFL before he came over. That's a huge advantage. After next summer when Tex has about another 6-7 kgs on him, he'll be put in the middle and just watch him.
