Not much to do last night so somehow I got sucked into randomly looking through my boxes of accumulated bullshit in my room. As well as coming across the carjack, fishing gear, & photos I'd forgotten I had, I unearthed some nice Blues items.

- Early 80s photographs of Carlton players. At the time my dad had a hand in a photographic shop & from memory had them supplied to him to be reduced to make badges. Dominator, Kenny, Molly, Doully….and of course the man who those guys aspired to be, David Honeybun.

- A copy of I Barrack For Carlton, the kid's book. Anyone who read/had it as a kid would know what I mean.

- A yellow Sherrin I acquired one day in the early 90s. Was walking past Carlton preseason training at the Lygon end with some mates & it came sailing out of the stadium. I snaffled it then a few weeks later took it to the family day & got it signed by Sticks, Braddles, SOS, Diesel, Ronny D, Tom Alvin, Rohan Welsh, & Mil

- The last item I was really pleased to find. For some reason I didn't make the trip to Waverley for our Saints match in 92 - perhaps it was because I was still burnt from the memory of the previous year, driving home early in a mate's Torana after Lockett kicked 13 & destroyed us. Anyway I can recall staying home, listening to it on AW, & at half time thinking not going was a good idea: Harvey was dominating & we trailed by 24 at the long break. The game saving move was Dorotich to CHF to beginn the second half…in a flash we had drawn level & it was game on. From this point I'd decided to hit record on my radio/tape player every time we streamed fwd & this was the tape, to my pleasant surprise, I found last night. Dorotich actually took 6 marks in that 3rd term we kicked 11.3 to 2.0 for the qtr!!! It was great listening to Rex Hunt, Shane Healey, & Ron Barrassi's call - one of them mentioned Mil (or could have been Bear) got 10 kicks in the 3rd alone…

In the final term there's a bit where Rex says 'Bradley, back to Kernahan 50…Kernahan…Kernahan…KERNAHAAAAN!! Magnificent goal by Stephen Kernahan, his 4th, and the fat lady is just about to SING' :-D

What was interesting to hear was that after the match they went through the ladder - with 3 rounds to go we sat 5th. Gee that loss to Coll 2 weeks later pretty much pulled the curtain down on our season, with a final round match against WCE in Perth looming.

Anyway just wanted to share how great it was listening to the tape - quite different to watching old vids but really good nonetheless. Anyone remember that match? Actually both our 1992 games against St K were awesome.

The good old days :)

I do remember that game. My brother and I were there, going end to end each quarter depending on which Carlton were kicking too.

We kicked to the main scoreboard end in that 3rd Qtr. Nearing the end the pie boy was walking past and as he screamed out "HOT PIES" some guy turned around and said "There's no hot pies here mate, its HOT BLUE BOYS"

I had a similar bout of nostalgia when my dad dug up my old AVCO training top and brought it when they visited next. I wore it to U-14 footy training and can also remember spending hours in it pretending to be the Buzz.

Nice one CK. I have great memories of that game and for that matter a lot of '92.

I started supporting the Blues as a young tacker in the early 80's and was of course spoilt by success. Too think I'd get disappointed if we didn't 'win by enough' in some games. Would love to experince that feeling again!

My point is that from '89-'91 I learnt what it was like to support an ordinary side and although this period was nothing compared to what we are experiencing now, it was still a reality check after what I had been used to. I enjoyed '92 because it was the first time I'd seen my side dig it's way out of mediocrity.

Too think we were 14-6 and missed the final 6 yet the following year in a 20 round season we finished 13.5/6.5 and that got us 2nd spot in what was one of the most even years ever.

That game CK95 I also listened to on the radio as a) I live in South Australia and b) The bloody Olympics were on so there was no coverage of the match. In fact that only highlights available of that game is from one roaming Channel 7 camera which just panned from end to end!

Some great highlights from that year. Beating the reigning Premiers at home in Round 2 with SOS kicking 8, ruining the pies centenary celebrations, the smashing of WB at Optus in Round 21? and the other win against St Kilda when we were down by a simaler margin and Rhino and Ronnie when sick at the Heatley Stand end, whilst Doro put a blanket on Plugger at the other end.

Wasn't that game the one where Dorotich kicked out from FB in the first half, stubbed his toe, dived on the ball, got tackled by Everitt and blatantly threw it back through the goals, giving away a free kick? One of the funnier things I've seen on a footy field.

92 is my favourite carlton non-finals year.

We would have given that premiership an almighty rattle had we snuck in the year - we were the form side of the comp.

That's one of the funniest things I've read on this site in ages (sorry!)

Joilet - Yeah, that 89-91 period really got the hunger going didn't it. Actually the lead up to the 1990 season was probably my most keenly anticipated ever, just because I desperately wanted us to make ammends for a horrible 1989.

bnz, I'll make a copy of it & hopefully hook up with you blokes for a beer after the forum match dude.

Some great memories there of the audio tape.

We were so excited after the '95 Flag win, that my wife decided she would like to hear Rex Hunt's call of the game on 3AW.

So I rang 3AW on the Monday who referred me to a company in Port Melbourne called Rehame who at the time recorded every minute of every radio broadcast on every station every day for Market Research etc.

Yes; we could buy the audio tapes of the broadcast (2 tapes) and I had to pick them up; and the price was $55!

We gladly paid it....there's never a problem when you win!

That is sensational hammer, and could you imagine anything like that getting written in today's commercially endorsed environment. :garthp:

Cracking post from you too CK, cheers buddy. 8)

In fact given that we were hammered by two finalists the final two rounds of the season, I'd say we were certainties for the flag had we snuck in.
