Not much to do last night so somehow I got sucked into randomly looking through my boxes of accumulated bullshit in my room. As well as coming across the carjack, fishing gear, & photos I'd forgotten I had, I unearthed some nice Blues items.
- Early 80s photographs of Carlton players. At the time my dad had a hand in a photographic shop & from memory had them supplied to him to be reduced to make badges. Dominator, Kenny, Molly, Doully….and of course the man who those guys aspired to be, David Honeybun.
- A copy of I Barrack For Carlton, the kid's book. Anyone who read/had it as a kid would know what I mean.
- A yellow Sherrin I acquired one day in the early 90s. Was walking past Carlton preseason training at the Lygon end with some mates & it came sailing out of the stadium. I snaffled it then a few weeks later took it to the family day & got it signed by Sticks, Braddles, SOS, Diesel, Ronny D, Tom Alvin, Rohan Welsh, & Mil
- The last item I was really pleased to find. For some reason I didn't make the trip to Waverley for our Saints match in 92 - perhaps it was because I was still burnt from the memory of the previous year, driving home early in a mate's Torana after Lockett kicked 13 & destroyed us. Anyway I can recall staying home, listening to it on AW, & at half time thinking not going was a good idea: Harvey was dominating & we trailed by 24 at the long break. The game saving move was Dorotich to CHF to beginn the second half…in a flash we had drawn level & it was game on. From this point I'd decided to hit record on my radio/tape player every time we streamed fwd & this was the tape, to my pleasant surprise, I found last night. Dorotich actually took 6 marks in that 3rd term we kicked 11.3 to 2.0 for the qtr!!! It was great listening to Rex Hunt, Shane Healey, & Ron Barrassi's call - one of them mentioned Mil (or could have been Bear) got 10 kicks in the 3rd alone…
In the final term there's a bit where Rex says 'Bradley, back to Kernahan 50…Kernahan…
Kernahan…
KERNAHAAAAN!! Magnificent goal by Stephen Kernahan, his 4th, and the fat lady is just about to SING'
What was interesting to hear was that after the match they went through the ladder - with 3 rounds to go we sat 5th. Gee that loss to Coll 2 weeks later pretty much pulled the curtain down on our season, with a final round match against WCE in Perth looming.
Anyway just wanted to share how great it was listening to the tape - quite different to watching old vids but really good nonetheless. Anyone remember that match? Actually both our 1992 games against St K were awesome.
The good old days
