Whilst Bowyer was running around in our seniors Blake Campbell was missing opportunities or Cal Beasy or Wiggo or Simmo or Davies.
We had enough players missing opportunities to fill the breach.
We just added mediocrity to the bunch we already had.
Why not play Simmo instead of Clarke and put a kid in the VFL?
Why not try Mick Stinear instead of Bowyer and put another kid in the VFL?
Opportunities and excuses.
Blake Campbell - poor attitude, not good enough = GONE
Callum Beasy - not good enough, playing Bendigo Bombers now and not even dominating = GONE
Wiggo - 50 games, not good enough = SHOULD GO
Simmo - slight body, eased in, starting to show something = STAYING
Davies - plenty of chances, inconsistent = LAST CHANCE
Stinear - not good enough, playing in Qld = GONE
At least come up with some examples of players that have kicked on in a lower league or have gone to another club and succeeded. You know what, there aren't many. These others were never going to make it, regardless of whether they were given 5 or 50 senior games. They were all kept on the list for a long time and given plenty of chances, it's not Pagan's fault they've delivered nothing anywhere, anytime. Simply giving games to players isn't enough if they're clearly not good enough. This is why Sporn, Wiggo and Livo will all fade away within 2 years, regardless of what pick in the draft they were.
BTW not a fan of all the hindsight recruiters on this site. We should have got Hartigan, Davey, Tuck ... Tuck is a retread (Hawthorn list) but one of those who has taken the second chance ... these players were passed up by all 16 teams more than 4 or 5 times so not sure we can blame only our recruiters for not taking them.
