No chance of landing Weitering or Sache with pick 3. We need to finish 2nd last and it is very possible if you think about the Suns playing Bris and us playing Bris at the Gabba.

We will beat Brisbane unfortunately. Our only hope is the Suns winning a few games. With ablett out who know? We may finish 2nd last if anything. Fingers crossed.
We may even beat Melbourne too.

Gee, it is a real concern when Pagan comes out and says that Carlton is in a worse position than when he was here.
HUN today saying that Carlton will only trade Yarran if a really good deal is on offer, mentions that the club would be prepared to lose him next season as a free agent because we will finish bottom 6 anyway and will get a "Frawley" type compensation from the AFL.
Paper also says that the club is privately preparing to losing Henderson to Geelong.

Privately preparing? Lachie was told in April that he was being shipped off for draft picks and to find himself a suitable home.

Is that right?
There have been conflicting stories regarding Henderson. Some saying he was shopping himself around during the pre season, others saying he wants to stay but the club has told him he will be moved on.
Others have suggested the club has put a contract in front of him but it is not enough.
Don't know what to believe but if the club told him that in April then we have completely lost the plot.

Putting a contract to someone when you know it is significantly less than fair value = forcing them to leave.
Telling someone you're not a priority to keep must do wonders for their performance. Lachie is playing like someone who has been told he will be traded if they get a first rounder.

*waiting for psych to respond with some conflicting report*

hey Em, you always seem like you have the good mail, but geez i hope you're wrong in this. he aint playing like he wants to be here, but surely Sos is smarter than that, talls don't grow on trees, i really don't want to lose him.

he needs to play in the backline to replace Jamo or Rowe, who arent the future

The club are publicly portraying it as Lachie wanting to leave because we all know how stupid it is to be the one forcing him to leave. Hence SOS's comments at that presser a few weeks back that discussions were going well.

At the beginning of the year Norf approached Lachie's management and were told Lachie wanted to stay at Carlton and would only be dealing with Carlton.
It is only since the club informed Lachie that they would be looking to trade him for a first rounder has his management been seeking a trade - Lachie would still like to stay but I feel the longer this goes the more we burn him and we'll end up making him want to leave.

It is very much the plan that they will look to trade him for a first and if no offers are suitable they think they'll just be able to sign him midway through the trade period. Which I think is hilarious and would encourage Lachie to leave - that is no way to treat your players. Loyalty is a two way street.

I feel really sorry he is being treated this way. Lachie is a ripping guy.

In all due respect we don't know how true this all is or if information had been misinterpreted.

In any case, if we get a 1st rounder for Lachie, you take it. He has not played well for us as a forward. Poor guy is a defender and if he ends up staying then I hope our new coach plays him at CHB.

The 23rd man has occasionally come from Northern Blues listed players this year. I'd say its age based.

They can be development squad players as well as I understood, but regardless of where they came from they can only be 23rd man 3 times in the regular season.

Yes, I am aware of that thanks Jim.

I know, but other people who don't know the difference between the development squad and the development league, are reading. :)

can someone tell me If we lost Hendo as a FA would we get a pick after our first rounder?

same goes for Yarren?

id take picks 1,2,3 or 2,3,4 :-)

ps outside of Cripps, Docherty, Murphy, Kruezer everyone should be tradeable. we are in a complete rebuild and need as many picks as possible

Henderson isn't eligible for free agency, nor is Yarran (until next season when his contract expires). If we delist them we get nothing, even if they're signed as a free agent. The only way they can both be shifted this year is via trade, and Henderson could move via the PSD, ND or rookie draft.

For an actual free agent at end of contract, the compensation is determined based on the new contract, unless the AFL deems that value to be miles off the player's intrinsic value (eg. Frawley).

When will they announce whether the future draft picks thing is a goer or not?

Is he really being treated that badly? Good bloke but this is about the club not the individual. Given his output over the past 2-3 years how much do you believe he is worth? Personally, I am thankful the club is finally being prudent with contracts. They don't have much room in TPP, they are reshaping the list over the next 3 years, don't believe he is worth big money and believe he wants to go anyway. I don't see any issue.

If Geelong offer Pick 10 and given our position I would be saying thanks for your service but we need to move on.

That's the time you want as many early picks as possible. The top end every year will be good. The draft is weak because of the lack of depth.

If you can pick the eyes out of a weak draft you can catch up quicker. Example being Hawthorn in 04 nailing 3 top 10 picks. The first 5 that year were consider superstars in the making. They knew they were getting 2 of them and then an opportunity at one of the best of the rest at 7.

Rubbish!
We've got 3 x #1 draft picks on our list right now. Picks mean nothing.

Agree Synbad we've got to get the structures right , President and board are crucial, coach and support team ,
liist magment to development, we need soild , dependable leadership on and off field.
Current situation is a little more fluid than a year ago but we're still in the wilderness.
Lets hope there is some good to come out of the pain we're going through.
This stanza our our history is deplorable and I hope it will never be repeated again.

The culture is ingrained in the Board, of course it will be repeated.

Someone pointed the bone at Carlton.
Like they did to McAlister at Collingwood following the Nicky Winmar day.
Pies won their first spoon.

Didn't a former Carlton player point his boner at someone?
