Third rounder probably gets used on Rice, allows us to trade our second rounder for Phillips/Plowman is my guess.

ben Lennon was pick 12 in 2013 which was a bumper draft & looking like a draft for the ages.

Richmond's first pick this year is pick 13 in a shallow draft where anything after pick 10 is equivalent to a second rounder in any other draft.

Lennon might be the better option this year.

Yeah, a pick that Richmond would rather keep, they want to trade Lennon instead. We are trying to rebuild a list, we shouldn't simply be settling on players just because they may appear to be a 'fair trade' on paper. Been there, done that to death. Richmond probably want to keep pick 13 because they have plans for it - the kind of thing we should be doing. Well, if they want Yarran they should be prepared to pay. The onus should be on Richmond if Yarran is contracted.

We don't know if Carlton has been in Lennon's ear and suggesting he quits Rich. Perhaps Rich do not want to part with him at all but we are the one's who have been assertive and forced Richmond's hand. We know Rich have been in Yarran's ear for some time.

I would be very surprised if Rich were happy to see Lennon go. I think this one is on us.

Did anyone think at all that we are the one's over rating our player? What has Yarran done? Here is a man with so much skill and speed yet does SFA to get the most out of himself. He is 25 soon and is not getting any better. Let Richmond deal with the inconsistency and lack of effort.

Let's be ruthless and aggressive at the trade table but don't be disappointed when the deal is done and you wanted everything for a B grade player and got realistic compensation instead.

Hawthorn gave up pick 19 last year for O'Rourke, who was uncontracted (i think), and hadn't shown much!

Yarran is a matchwinner, and under contract; you don't induce a player to break his contract, and then not pay up.

You usually pay overs not unders in this scenario...

In the words of David King, pick 12 is a steal for the Tigers...

There's realistic and then there is simply being wrong headed. I think we can do better than Lennon with pick 13 this year if it came down to that. It's what Barker was saying about being bold with our drafting. I abhor the philosophy that any half-decent young player is a good fit for a struggling team. We need good KPPs badly and that's what the trading of the likes of Yarran and Henderson should be about. If not, then we've missed the point by a mile.

We can get pick #13 for Yarran and then Lennon through the PSD.

That would be amazing. I hope you are right but I am skeptical as I dont trust our club to pull it off.

Assuming no academys, father-sons and compensation picks Richmond are due pick 12.

If the tigers thought Lennon was going to be really good, they wouldn't be offering him up. Perhaps they are keeping #13 in the hope that they can sneak past Woods for Treloar, don't know how though. We don't have to trade Yarran to Richmond or to anywhere. Actually a player with his talent would be handy at many clubs. No more Andy Collins deals, we get a fair return or we don't trade, no more taking peanuts,

I'd be angry if my mongrel was only an inch too!

No clue whatsoever.

As for Richmond, we have zero obligation to them. Does anyone think they wanted to play nice when they were in Griggs ear?
He walked out leaving us with limited bargaining power.
The boots on the other foot now. Do whats best for Carlton FC, @#$%&! the Tigers.

I totally agree with your sentiments BV.
Thing is ... clubs rarely do this. They always seem to bend to the requests of the players..

Yeah, bending to the players. Even though the Bleaks don't deserve another negotiation again if media reports are correct. Second rounder and a fringe player for a contracted top 10 pick in our Best 22? What an insult. :garthp:
