Don't get annoyed at SOS for delisting some guy who tried hard but wasn't afl standard. Be thankful he's helping make the hard decisions that need to be made to turn this mess around.

Doubt we'll get a GWS 4 deal again which means cutting that many players will be hard.

Depending on what DVR, Smith, Foster show, they are likely to get 1 or 2 more years. Dick, Tutt and Whiley certainly under the gun. White and Armfield probably in the same boat.

I'd be pretty disappointed if we failed with yet another draft crop based on that list of names you've given. That's everyone from the 2014 draft except Boekhorst.

I'm confident Gowers, Foster and DVR will survive next year's cull, which will be reduced compared to the previous 3 seasons. Limited trade options and a shallow free agency pool 12 months out has seen to that.

Utterly ridiculous call at this point; those guys were on a significantly reduced program targeted towards building mass.

(Not including our new American Cat B rookie) We currently have 32 senior players and 4 rookies on our list, and there is a maximum of 44 players total, ie we need to find 8 players.

4 first round picks, plus SOSOS, then we need 3 more.
My guess is these will be 3 rookie picks.

You didn't count Byrne as a Cat B rookie; it's 9 players.

If Dick gets cut, the bleeding will continue for some time.

Holman is stiff, would have liked to see him persevered with more than any other. Bet Warnock will get a go elsewhere.

Would I be right in saying Holman had a better season this year than any of the GWS 4 ?

I reckon so!

Wow this is a real line in the sand.

I am a bit surprised about both Holman and Walsh going but on the other hand not so surprised that Armfield and White have survived given the massive turnover. Yes I realise that is contradictory. I am guessing that Armfield and White have survived because they have a good work ethic and add some experienced depth.

SOS obviously rates Sumner and Kerridge and it looks likely that pick 8 or 11 will be a midfielder. Maybe pick 19 as well. It is real bad luck for both of these lads to be out of contract at the wrong time in the club's history.

I have a heavy heart about delisting blokes that I still think might just make it. But we have just won yet another spoon. We have been awful.

For the first time in years I detect a ruthless streak from Carlton. It is a bit horrible and a bit of a shock, but it is probably what it will take to get us back up the ladder. SOS, BB, Trigg et al making the hard calls.

I expect to see a far more competitive side next year even if we don't win too many more games.

Also really pleased to see the end of Friday night games. Always hated them.

Holman surprised me. Thought next year was his year to break out. He added to our midfield depth and could kick the ball nicely. With Holman and Walsh going this must mean we are about to draft a couple of midfielders who we rate higher than these two.

All our players have next season as their breakout year. I didn't mind Holman but if we're prepared to cut him it shows we're serious. I'm fine with that. Gut the place.

Gutting is the easy piece. Hopefully the rebuild is better.

Don't have a problem with those delistings.

Just a question though, for those who might know. How much cap space have we relieved?

Think about it?
Judd - $500k
Warnock - $400k
Carrazzo - $300k
Hendo - $300k???
Menzel - $300k?
Yarran - $400k

There would have to be at least $2million plus freed up????

EDIT - and with that, can we perhaps fast track both Daisy's and Liam Jones's contracts next year and piss them off sooner rather than later?

Giddy up then to land a FA big fish next year. I recall Carlton doing lots of player turnover and recycling between about 89 through 92, which were also very lean but short years.

Not next year - year after.

Hopefully this doesn't give away our draft intentions too much...

Rebuild and ruthless I get, as we can't keep accepting mediocrity (although mediocre is better than we currently are !), but Holman goes and Tutt stays. Hmmm not sure I get that, other than Tutt is fast, but gee he's not much else. Holman a good lefty kick so fits the Hawks mould, and also hard at it and looked to be aclimatising well to AFL level ?

Existing contracts and TPP, is what it's about.

Foster you'd assume will get more time unless he is really bad. Can't expect a tall forward to be ready in 2 years. Just needs to show he's taken another step.

I did too, now I'm not so sure SOS will take the risk. I think he's eyeing off 6 picks, most likely all at the National Draft.
