Around this time I always put a smaller 10 smackers on the Brownlow and this year I will be plonking it on Houlihan

Pagan has talked him up he looks as though he wont be in defence as much so he will freeball which he will feel more comfortable with. When he has played well he has polled well

If the Blues win around 11,12 games and he finally fires I rate him a chance.Havent looked at the odds but would probably be around the 1001/1 mark with sportsbet.

Interested what other posters think and is there other Blues players who will take the big step in 06

Houlihan in the midfield is about 2 years to late for mine. This kid will rock this year!!! The Rolls Royce is back!!

I reckon you'd be better off putting your tenner on Walker, or Kouta, or Carrots. :P

I've already put my hard-earned $2.50 each-way on both Houla & Walker. Likely to be a silly bet but I couldn't resist the crazy 1000-1 odds currently available at www.centrebet.com.au

Hope im wrong, but if Houla turns into an A grade midfielder then i will bare my you no what in Bourke St.Hasnt got the motor for it,hasnt got the toughness for it,hasnt got the mobility for it,and more importantly, hasnt got the ball winning ability for it.
Houla on his day,is a devastating HFFlanker oppurtunist who will shread you when he gets going.Thats what he is full stop.Plenty to whack in the guts before Houla. When Pagan talks about Houla in the guts i become seriopusly worried about our decision makers. Are they with it or are they in ga ga land.

I'm throwing a tenner on Daniel Kerr.

I think Cooney will have a very good year. If the doggies do well he could be up there. If I had to put a big bet down though I'd put it on Dal Santo.

Hard tipping anyone from the dogs given West, Cooney, Johnson, Griffen, Giansiracusa, Murphy etc are likely to steal votes. Although one can argue Aker and Black in 01/02 and Cousins last year

Would have to agree. Houlihan is not even in my starting 22 any longer. He needs to win me over all over again (if you know what I mean). Watch him closely when you get a chance. I've noticed that when he is running forward and his man slips back on him, he points and yells out to other midfielders to run down and pick up his man. That really irks me especially when he is only 5 or 10 metres away himself but he just won't put in the extra effort to get there. He'd rather a midfielder help him out whilst he picks up that midfielders opponent instead. Now, I could live with it if it happened once in awhile but watch him closely, he does it constantly. What it also tells me, is that he isn't accountable enough for his man and EXPECTS others to cover his man when he has floated too far forward. Sorry, but for mine, he is too offensive and hasn't quite mastered the art of knowing how far is too far when you peel off your opponent. This has to irk his team mates and I'm told it does.

I also agree, that if Pagan is planning on running both Houlihan and Betts through the midfield, then it's just plain stupidity. Neither know how to stick to an opponent. God, I could just see the opposition rub their hands with glee if they saw Houlihan and Betts in the midfield. Please, I don't mind experimentation when there is some basis to it, but this is just plain suicidal.

I was at the Freo game over here last year, and while we kept in touch, we struggled to kick goals all days. Houla in the forward line added a touch of class and someone with goal sense. I must admit I'd prefer to see him as a HFF as well...

Houla was instrumental in that game we drew with Port in Adelaide last year too. He played in the middle and had the ball on a string at times.

He has the tank and he has the skills, but as someone mentioned he may not have the balls. That said, neither does Campo, and apparently he's an elite midfielder.......

Houla is a receiver and we all know he has no balls. BUT, with AB and Blackwell ready to step into the team on a more permanent basis as the hard nuts, there is no reason why Houla cant be used as a receiver. He has the foot skills and when he is kicking into the foward line you can almost always back that it is going to hit Fev on chest. Look at the Port and Bulldogs game for an example.
He also knows where the goals are aswell and if he gets in space inside 50, more often than not he will drill it.
Look what Peter Burgoyne did to us in the last game we played them, he killed us and IMO, Houla can play the same type roll and do it well.

But Houla, please take note, if its your turn to go in, GO IN!!!!

Houlihan to win the Brownlow ???

Pack me a bong too buddy, I want to be on the same planet as you.

He has no chance of winning anything except for a voucher valid at Terence Marini.
