This year is a joke. Yet another waste of time!
***Coach is a joke! - no game plan, minimal development of players, No creativity, poor player management and terrible interaction with players,
***Selection commitee are a joke!
***List management - Laughabe that after 4 years the same players still running around without any significant improvement.
***Ian Collins and his board of merry men were a joke (Thank god he has gone shame it was 3 years too late).
***Commitee - Too scared to make decisions and the bizarre decision to re-sign a coach who has achieved so little in his time with us.
***Ian Coutts - Has done nothing during his tenure.
*** Marketing department - What a farce!!! the whole Something Blue campaign is about as inspiring as cleaning my car - Considering we have no cash how much did we waste on this uninspiring dribble.
*** Players - Although they are not v.good at the moment at least they are having a crack (hopefully it doesnt all fall away now that the year is over!)

Its hard to be patient when the entire organisation from the top down is substandard. I will always love carlton but its hard to be patient when the same mistakes are being repeated and nobody wants to be a realist and realise that changes must be made now!!!

i actually think the something blue marketing campaign isnt bad. but i sign up every year regardless, so i dont really need to be impressed.

didnt think the campaign was horrible in any respect but I dont think it would have convinced any member to resign or more importantly any new members to sign up. It didnt sell any of our players or the future. I had no idea that was SOS's mum(?) or that marc murphy was in the ad until it was mentioned in these boards. Dave hughes on the add - i like him as a comedian but how does having him in a playing uniform panting sell memberships? - if anything it might suggest that our team is a joke.

The ads should be convincing people to sign on because they are able to sell the clubs passion, the youth or a positive future - imho the ad did neither of those and has failed.

Off the top of my head the membership ads that i've seen this year
saints - didnt think it sold the footy clubs future or flag chances (which would be their big selling point) - wtf are the players doing community service items for? - they arent the ymca - bad ad imho
dogs - good clean positive ad - think they have done well
hawks - always liked the hardcore hawks campaigns - it sells passion, though perhaps at this stage of their development they should perhaps shift the campaign to selling the clubs future - younger players, waverly facilities etc
tigers - the tattoo parlour - average - to me it appears to be a cheap ripoff of the hardcore hawks campaign though is less clever.
carlton - see above.

I think there are more important issues raised in this thread and more pertinent to our current plight than the marketing campaign!

Our club is effected in so many areas by incompetence and sub-standard performance that it is quite frightening! I still have genuine concern for our clubs long term prospects. We need some radical change and we need it now!

And whilst I acknowledge that there is virtually no bona fide football commentators or experts in the media, I was flabbergasted to hear that knob Maher pretty much dismissing DP's role in our persistent crap performances with a throwaway line that Denis knows what he is doing. How the f*#k did you come up with that you dropkick!

DP continues to avoid any criticism or judgment in the media and it is unacceptable

spot on Mr Blue. The time for radical change is almost upon us.

given the huge drop in membership - and possibly another drop in numbers next season if things arent seen to improve, marketing is very important

sure marketing is important but I would hazard a guess that the reason that membership numbers are down is because we have a member and supporter base that have simply had enough.

We have offered nothing on field for 5 years now. We see no progress and have had the life and spirit ripped out of our club. Sure the supporters responded for a couple of years in response to the AFL raping us. That fuelled a surge of Carlton solidarity I suppose. But sooner or later enough is enough. We are seeing Carlton people turning their backs on our club because they simply dont care anymore. They are fed up with the mediocrity.

Yeah, marketing is important, so are the off field operations but the most important aspect of any football club is the team. And that is the realm of the football department and they have failed our club for the past decade. But I am more concerned by the group in charge now. They have also failed. And they are not immune from being held accountable for that. Time for the club to make the tough decisions. DP will not walk. He is a stubborn, unreasonable man who wont jump even though the ship is sinking

I think the marketing has been ok ... we've come off the back of record membership numbers because of supporters rallying after being told we're in danger of going under.

The drop off has to be related to our playing performance. Not much to inspire us really and I suppose the club is now selling the hope of youth to keep people with us. Saying that, I think the Carlton crowds over the last 3 or 4 years have been sensational when you factor in our win loss record. If we can get a winning team on the field i'd be confident we'd have record membership figures.

agree with you on pagan - I've posted that he was not the right man for the job since he was first appointed following the sacking of brittain (which I also disagreed with).

On marketing though - given that we had 2 picks in the top 5 this year, that fisher, simpson, walker etc have all showed signs of becoming good players - I was really surprised that we didnt sell our youth/future this year in terms of marketing - at least it would have given some of those jaded members a vision/hope and perhaps convinced a few more to re-sign.

Pagan is a really bad guy to help market the club, and his coaching performance is even worse. Seriously we need a younger coach to rev the players up, Pagan is part of an old-breed that is becoming irrelevant, and his planning, creativity in coaching and tactics has been quite pathetic. I mean he's still live in the past with Pagan's paddock and that shit, has hasn't movied on from there. We don't have Carey and the like in this team, and he needs a more ground-level type plan to prove his worth. With losers like Elshaugh, dempsey and Daniher, we have nowhere to move with those blokes.

i thought the campaign was 'something different' they took a risk, which is what marketing is all about. i agree that a more youth focused campaign may have been better but i think next year theyll pull out all the stops. that is of course depending on how the team goes. if we atleast show signs towards the end of the year were on the improve (as we did last year) it makes their job much easier. if we dont and we just keep sinking into the abyss they become hamstrung dont they. a new coach with a bit of charisma wouldnt go astray. last shot of the ad would just be whoever that is, in carlton gear staring down the camera, a no bullsh*it, no excuses kind of expression.

Yes I agree it was "Somthing Blue" slogan was a marketing risk. It couldn't have been a calculated risk though IMO. I thought it was a big nothing, and did not move me one iota. I find "Something Blue" uninspiring and meaningless. What does it tell me? What emotions does it drive? What is the call for action? More of a branding campaign than one to move membership numbers in the right direction.

We need to focus on our heritage, youth and the 17th Flag.

I am patient, and I'll always be a bluebagger but I'm more disappointed in Carlton supporters (not becoming members) and the marketing efforts to date, than I am of the boys in the middle and coaching staff.

yeah, i too am disapointed by those fans. my uncle is a prime example. played under 19s and reserves for the blues, and he is the most cynical man ull ever meet. he purchased a membership a few years ago and then didnt renew. his reasoning was thus: NO REASON. whats the use of buying one one year and not the next, really it isnt a massive outlay if ur passionate about the club, if u dont sign up it shows just how much of a blue you really are.

when the club is good again, a powerhouse, they should reward those fans who consistently signed up through the dark times, it would be an initative greatly supported by those of us who have stuck with them and wouldnt it just be the ultimate "thank-you". itd be a small gesture, but c'mon, ud love it.

getting back to the original post here I agree with most of your comments except the part about the players having a crack. I think that almost all of our players attitudes stink. They just don't seem to care about team aspects of the game, unfortunately this is like a cancer through our team as even younger players like Simpson now seem complacent just to go through the motions as he is getting a regular game without any pressure.

We are in such a position now that I just can't see how we are going to work our way out, there is a real losing culture developing to the extent that our players won't know how to win in the future.

Great....Pagan you have been badly Exposed.....How sad and pathetic.... he tried to fool us by flooding for few rounds and thinking We are over the Massive losses, Well u cant hide and keep pretending for long...

Denis Pagan has no right to be Angry with the players nor their Attitude... he is Soly Responsible for this Loss becuase of the Sick and retarded Game plan that he chose for the team....

what drives me nuts is that We have already spoken about the Chip-Chip Side ways, backwards kicks, holding the ball for ages, SINCE Round 1...

Denis has Acknoweldged it, and promised to work on it in Training every week, and Then on Game day, ***** hell, The Same Tactics YET Again.......

Had Denis played man on man, and Just changed the Tactics to Kicking long and long to contests, We would have a much better chance than just turning the ball Over so Cheaply....

The Poor Clangers and Disposals of not only the young players but the Senior players ( which was never that bad last year or the year before), ALL but suggests the players have stoped playing for Pagan...

Kouta doesnt wana be there, he is the Captin but he cant be stuffed anymore, nor does Stevens, scotland and Lappin.....

Pagan needs to GO Right NOW.... We need some passion... we need a Carlton legend like Silvgani or Kernahan to Take over..... Bring back Ratts and replace him with the useless libba, and bring maybe Peter Dean and get him to Fix our useless backline!!!!!

Tonight i am going on Air on Whiteline Fever, and i will Ask them on TV to Sack Pagan becuase we have had enough....

It's hard to be patient when it's not in our blood.

It's hard to be patient when we don't know how to be patient.

It is, however, very easy to say we need to be patient...

This is the first time Carlton have ever had to rebuild totally in our lifetimes - look at what other clubs have had to endure... of course, we're different cos we're Carlton... we'll talk about being patient for 6 weeks, then get fed up with it...

The problem is that We Carlton supporters aren’t used to being this bad as it has never happened to us in the past.

In the past being a bad year meant, being out of action in the semis, we have never had to deal with this sort of crap before (makes you thankful that you don’t follow a team like the dogs, St Kilda etc.. as they have had to put up with hand to mouth living for the last 50 years

And unfortunately it is our turn, sacking the coach mid season is not going to fix a thing, will we then will have to sack the next coach at the end of this season when he doesn’t take us to the flag ???

I think most of the post I have read on here are people that should follow another team and then have the balls to say that they support the BLUES, most supporters/members seem to have gone more feral that Richmond.

It hurts but we need to take the medicine, I can’t see the pain ending soon and a new coach, board spill isn’t going to fix that, our Kids need to time to mature bring on 2008.

Wolfister you are on the money great post

j-top bring on 2008 :?: :?: :?: :?:

It's going to be alot longer than that.

I say 2011-2012

We are now feeling the pain of the loss of draft picks from 2002 and 2003.

We should have another 3 or 4 top kids in our team at the moment.
