Ah Synbad,

So much time on your hands. Why did you even bother.

Like you, I am no better than others, just have different methods of achieving things. Unlike you, I don't hold myself out as the authority on all issues.

Unlike you, I am aware of and open to different approachs to solving situations.

Koombayah has never really been my go. Thanks for the invite though.

Synbad,

You know my approach & it doesn't involve Koombayah.

If a message needs to be delivered, do it. However, doing it publicly doesn't achieve too much, except create open division.

Regards

Ockham

OR.. i know.. but you know something???

Noone gives a stuff what Cammo thinks...
Noone gives a stuff what most people think...
including what i think... ok i like to sometimes think otherwise... its only cos im completely frustrated ....

but i dont mind that Cammo is out having a go... i prefer that to people that dont care...

There is too much apathy floating around...at least he cares...

Synbad,

I know that GS is as boring as bat shit. I aslo know that others think so too. GS is a hard nosed, uncompromising business man, always wanting the best outcome for his position.

IF the opportunity arises for him to attempt to win in a negotiation then he will pursue this to the end of the earth.

We can only hope that over the coming months that these opportunities arise and that he applies himself in the best manner that he knows how.

He is never going to win a personality contest, but he does know the value of $. Knowing what I do of him, I can't believe that he would ever totally lose in a negotiation, purely because of his single minded focus on $.

He will not pursue a position which results in a definite $ loss situation without significant guaranteed upside.

Regards
Ockham

I think Frank is right on this one. There are better ways of getting a message across, as OR has pointed out ... while some of those saying it's OK have been heavily critical of the Board's approach to the media.

Is that a reason to compound the problem?

I think not.

Ockham, I think you make some good points here about GS. He is an astute businessman who is presumably well connected in corporate land. From a financial point of view, he is definitely not the worst person to be in charge.

However, to use your words, he's as boring as bat shit. Surely there is someone at the club (or at least close to the club) with some passion and personality who can act as the mouthpiece and sell the club in a positive light.

You'd have to assume that there won't be any massive boardroom shake-ups (which is disappointing in my view) At the very least the club could do something about the way they are portrayed to the public.

Managing a Steel business and a football club is very different.

Completely different skills needed. In his business it is really about cost control and logistics. Football club is about people, service and selling passion. He has already shown he cant do this. Look at the way the club
treats SC members - treat them like cattle and the ychoose to leave.

In the service and sports indiustry its all about creativity, service and marketing. Not the areas he knows anythin g about.

mikkey, I definitely agree with you on all those issues. In an ideal world I would have Smorgan and most of the board removed. Plus a massive shake-up of marketing, membership and communications depts.

The reality is that this won't happen because the club is shit-scared. The point I was trying to make, is that if we're stuck with what we've got, at the very least we could have a frontman/spokesperson that is a positive face. Instead of dollars and cents, lets start talking about passion and pride.

I dont know ehere anyone gets 'astute businessman'.. really you should have a chat with him and talk about his philosophies...

NO IDEA..... believe me...

and that little insight we got of him basically sums up his astute business sense.

When you have no answers... and you dont have the pull to create new revenue styreams what do you do???

Well you continue slashing ... and when you cant slash anymore... you try and slash some more..., eg.. "pay under 92.5%"... if you call that astute.. well fine by me.,..

Someone should explain if you cut under the bare minimum... sorry.. if you even talk about it... there is no way youll get up off the bottom.. cos youre players will leave and other players wont come..

astute you say???

Then talking on the Footy Show about "cant pay the players".. "no money".... blah blah blah...

And then you spend the whole of the next day trying to backpeddle your fuckups... then you just know youre a moron...

Cos he would have put some thought into that Footy show thing.. it wouldnt have just happened.

Astute???

dont make me laugh.....

everyone knew it was cringe material as soon as it was aired.
