The Melbourne-based Capricorn Investment Group includes the Escor Group - owned by members of the Smorgon family, and Selpam Group - a private company owned by the Newton and Jones families with Richard Newton as Managing Director.
Did Graham Smorgon forget to mention his family is in business with Richard Newton?
Not much to take from that, bigger link in the fact that he was on the Social Club board.
Sorry Jimmae but for a president to fill a board with his friends who are unelected, 2 months after an election is a bigger deal than if the guy was on the SC board.
Is there evidence that points to this rather than Smorgon brought his family on board to the other company based on his dealings with him at the football club?
And mjonc, if you were invited to be an astronaut tomorrow, and NASA had the utmost confidence in you, would you say yes?
I bet you would if they thought you could go into space. You probably wouldn't have given it a second thought before that unless you were a bit of a dreamer. It just means Gleeson didn't have those sort of expectations of himself, doesn't mean he's inadequate or incompetent or dislikes the job, he just didn't consider it a possibility.
Jimmae your missing the point. The point is the board has hired someone who had no passion or desire prior to two weeks ago for the position, now all of a sudden he is told we think you'll be good on the board because your an ex-player and have a business background.
I'm not having a go at Gleeson either, it is the process and criteria of selection I'm having a crack at.
PS: I wouldn't accept a position with NASA as I have a medical condition that would prevent me going. A good example of a poor decision IMO.
