I dont ever want to bag DP because he is the coach of the Mighty Blues and the Mighty Blues are what I love, but the thing that frustrates me about DP is his negative mindset. DP has always said "that our list isn't the best" "that untill we get a better list" "that with the players I have to work with". This is unacceptable for the coach of the Mighty Blues to say these things. Only at the end of a season should a coach evaluate his list like that. DP needs to install a culture of "I believe that my team can do it." How heart-wrenching for a promising young player (Simpson, Murphy, Kennedy etc) to see their own coach say that he doesn't believe the list is good enough. Pagan needs to change his attitude and install into his team the attitude that they can do it. I think about the times over the last four years that Carlton has been succesful (the Wizard Cup) and you could sense that the players were confident, that they were good enough. If you say your not good enough, you never will be. Look at Collingwood, they were crap last year, this year they look like a new team, they have the belief they can win. Carlton also needs to develp the belief they can win. I honestly believe that when Lance plays up forward, Carlton plays a lot better, because the players have the mindset that they are good enough to win the game not try and save from getting flogged. In 95 would we ever of said that our list isn't good enough to win!!! I tell you now if we did think like that we would still only have 15 premierships in that cabinet. Carlton has been the most successful club in the history of football, and we didnt become that because we had the mindet that "our list isnt good enough." That is not the Carlton Way.
The Carlton Way:
Our List is the best in the Comp.
Winning is everything.
Failure is unacceptable.
How I long for that arrogance again! DP it starts with you. I disagree with you DP and anyone who agrees with you.
OUR LIST IS GOOD ENOUGH DP!!!!!!!! Change your mindset!
I wrote this before the game today. But the way we played today proved this point. In that second quarter we were pumped, somehow we had the confidence to run the lines, to take risks, we were able to hit our targets and it was all because we started to believe in ourselves. We did have a list good enough if we just had a bit of belief!! The boys huddled at the end of that quarter and before we went to half-time big Lance gave the boys a few words, and we went into the locker rooms believeing in ourselves. But we come out a total different team. Even before the ball was bounced Big Lance was down back. Why this negative mindset. Suddenly we played negative footy again. We lost the abilty to believe that we could win. We started missing our targets again.
Well said mate!
We were like that at half time because we changed the way we usually play.
We had a 5 man forward line
We kicked long to a goal square - WITH OUR FORWARDS ACTUALKLY THERE
We moved it fast, running through the centre as opposed to kicking long along the wing to a contest
We Had belief in ourselves because we were enjoying the footy
&.........most importantly.............WE WERE ATTACKING!
For some reason, that all changed after half time? Why is that?
