You know what. I watch other clubs play the game and I get jealous of just how much of a good 'balance' of players they have across the board.
I'm not talking about a balance in terms of age but most clubs seem to have players in all positions right across the board that know their stuff.
Synbad is absolutely right when he says that we can’t just pussy foot our way to success.
My area of interest is our list and as everyone by now must know, we have made a mess of it.
Apart from the obvious mistakes; we have continued to make a few errors in the last few years that have meant that we have failed to make the most of our recruiting opportunities.
I’m sorry Barnsey but we really can’t afford to be as ‘stiff’ as you suggest when we come to make our draft selections at the end of the year.
If we go to the draft with the mind set that ‘pick A is for a midfielder and pick B is for a ruckman and so on…’ then what if the best player of that particular ilk is not the best pick, let alone not up to standard?
No, we have got to realize that after all that has been said and done the object is to have a side that can defeat the opposition and not just hold our own against mid-tier teams…um…err…probably.
If we can’t learn this while the side is at its lowest ebb, then we probably never will.
Our aim shouldn’t only be to not make the same mistakes again but also to try and rectify as many of those mistakes as is practically possible.
We are not going to get a priority pick this year so we need to find other ways to rebuild and if that means taking a short term kick in the guts then…so be it.
