Well done Anthony Koutifides on signing up for your 16th senior season with the Blues.

It is a terrific achievement by a true champion of the Carlton Football Club. Amongst the many accolades that Kouta has achieved are;

• 1995 Carlton Premiership player,
• Dual pre-season premiership player (1997 & 2005)
• Two time Carlton Best & Fairest winner (2001 & 2005);
• Runner up best and fairest twice (1999 & 2003);
• Captain of the Carlton Football Club since 2004;
• All Australian (1995 & 2000); and
• Winner of both the AFLPA and the Australian Football Media
Association Most Valuable Player in 2000

Kouta was one player that I would always go to the footy to watch. I will never forget the chants at Princes Park from the Gardiner and Social Club stands of “Kouta Kouta Koutaâ€

The facts are you felt you needed to start a "Kouta - the positive thread"

why should there be a need for one if it was such a positive???

surely if signing Kouta up was a positive we would ALL see it?? and one bloke wouldnt have to make a positive thread???

I can understand how its a positive for Kouta personally.. but how is it a positive for a guy like Setanta or Hartlett or Smith for instance???

And so Smorgons 300k that we made a big song and dance about. went straight into the 'black hole' (Koutas pocket)

I don't think anybody would deny Kouta is a legend and always will be.

They would be lying only to themselves otherwise (IMO).

Synbad,

Maybe there is a need to start a positive thread about a champion such a Kouta, when a bunch of negative doomsayers who don't know jack shit about motivation of elite athletes start posting crap on a fan based website.

Dance on his grave when he is gone all you like - whilst he is still associated with the Carlton Football Club I will celebrate what he means to the club.

Regards
Ockham

That should be reserved for when he retires not while he is holding back the club....

Its all in the timing.

you dont congratulate a guy for taking 300k from the club 150 of which is outside of the salary cap and can be used to say... get more coaches in.. for example just to glotify what a great he was last century...

Plenty of time for all that when he retires....

Childish thread....

GWS,

What do you actually know about leadership/motivation and instilling success in young elite athletes.

I am not talking about something you've read in a book. I am aksing you directly, what experience do you have in motivating/providing guidance to elite athletes?

OK, maybe it is a stretch to think that you have real involvement in motivating/ providing guidance to elite athletes.

What involvement do you have in anything "elite"? I'm not talking about being the best pen pusher, or bricklayer or car salesman, I'm talking about being in an elite environment?

If you don't have that experience with elite athletes, then your views are just puff and hot air along with most of us on this site.

You don't know what Kouta brings to the development of our young players. To bag him as you've done in the "Kouta re-signs for 2007" thread is very tough from behind your keyboard.

regards
Ockham

On 3aw he said(and you can check) "Im looking forward to spending less time around the club next year"

Wanna check it??? :?

Go on then.... run along and swing off your monkeybar to the 3 aw interview.(make sure you dont fall on your sandpit)

GWS should give Ockham the post of the week for this thread. :wink:

Signing Kouta for $125,000 because half of his contract is outside the cap was a terrible move. And we don't need to meet the minimum of 92.5% that the AFL stipulate every club has to pay. :garthp:

The kids we draft this year aren't going to see him as a mercenary like some of the Carlton diehards on this site, but a name player and a legend. If the kids are good enough to get a game then they'll force him out of the side like Brad suggested.

Ockham if you read my posts you'll find I'm not knocking what Kouta is capable of contributing I'm simply asking what it is that he provides that we can't get from others (French, Lappin, Fevola, Stevens, whoever).

And what is it that Kouta can contribute next year that he couldn't do by retiring and coming down to the club in his spare time to help out?

The best anyone's been able to come up with as an answer to those questions is that he inspires the young guys in the way he does some extra jogging outside the ground.

As for what I do? Not relevant in the slightest. This is a place for interested people to discuss their football club and its workings. If we were only allowed to comment on things we're personally involved in there wouldn't be a lot of posting now would there?

Curious this issue makes you feel the need to play the man not the ball. Not usually your style Ockham.

So you reckon Kouta might play for the Bullants next year???

Kouta shouldnt be able to hold his side in the team this year.

He isnt as good as Lappin an Lappin was dropped.
Face it... 150 k would have been better spent on something else.. and all that will happen is he will hold a kid out of the side who will deserve match time and game experience for the future.

Crazy decision by club and player.

Just goes to show how pathetic we are

Then next year we will say "he didnt force the club to pay him 300k... " the usual stuff thats said each time the club makes a crazy decision ....

Jonathon Hay didnt forcve North to make that decision either.. but guess what???... the supporters are stuck with it.
