Things can't change overnight...
Pagan and Collins et al were left with the most dire situation seen in football since... well since Fitzroy... but it was certainly the worst state our club has ever been in ever.
It's easy to say that we can no longer blame the penalties and we have to move on etc - but equally it is way too easy to say "well this isn't working so we need to get rid of everything and start again again".
Just ask Richmond post 1982.
I believe what most people have seen this year is a much more competitive Carlton unit, fuelled mainly by the improvement in our kids. We've been in a position to win a lot more games this year than we were last year, and but for some very ordinary quarters, we would have. But one bad quarter is a problem that is very common in a young developing side.
Hell, even Harry Potter struggled a bit in his formative years.
So "sunshine" just because some people like to see things in a more positive light, doesn't mean they're waiting for magic... it may just mean that they're realistic and patient.
And realistically - Blackwell has has shown a lot this year, but he's a kid and he's looking tired... Jesse Smith clearly hasn't the size to match it in the big league yet - however, just as Simpson was guided through, perhaps guiding Blackers and Jesse will see the same results we've seen in Simpson this year.
Have you noticed Simmo this year? He's been very good.
But hey - lets get rid of all our older guys and just play kids who don't have the bodies to get through a full season... that makes much more sense to me...
Who's relying on magic again?
