Not strategic enough...is reactive not proactive...is similar to Bomber Thompson (I watched a bit of him when he was Kangaroos Reserves coach)...
You're imagining him out at Cramer st where he belongs...sit back and imagine him at the front of the box at the 'G on a friday night in 2007 during a must win game against the Tigers...I envisage it would be like a deer in the headlights...c'mon - you've seen the Bullants - what sort of style would Barry bring across ?? That's right - the same style you see today!
Anyone remember that H&A game at the 'G in '98 or '99 against the Bombers when Bradley took himself off the ground in the 1st qtr? I was right near the interchange bench that day as he yelled at Wayne Brittain - "do you have any f*ng clue as to what you're doing up there?"
That's your opinion but I dont agree.
I've listened to Mitchell instructing the Bullants during games and he is concise, knowledgeable and lateral in his thinking.
I've watched him train his players many times and his drills are interesting for the players, challenging and match relevant.
He simulates flooded forward lines during training and encourages the players to use their initiative and choose options. It also teaches forwards to find space in congested situations.
Far more advanced on Denis' repeated smash ball nonsense.
Mitchell encourages the players to make tactical changes during games, think for themselves and take risks within the team rules.
If you want to look at a rabbit in headlights, look at Denis' response in 2004/5 everytime our opponents played loose men behind the ball instead of matching up on our loose players.
Or the inability to counter the zones acroos half back when the kickout rule was changed earlier this year.
Mark Williams was pissing himself laughing in the coaches box at Optus Oval in the practice match.
Mitchell would eat Pagan alive tactically.
He has failings but you have'nt identified any of them in your post.
If you're going to knock the guy, at least come up with something accurate
