The real notes from the interview before editing

Did you think you were going to lose your job?
Of course I did we had just won 2 spoons
Why do you want to continue given what you had to deal with
They pay me a lot
You've finished 16th twice in a row. What do you say to critics who feel you've had long enough?
Show me the money
How tough was that week?
It wasn’t tough at all I new they didn’t have the balls to sack me
Do you feel you've got mandate — do you feel you will be the coach of Carlton?
No but I do have a gun to their head and they cant afford to get rid of me
What about your relationship with the board of the Carlton Football Club?
While they keep getting handout from the AFL it will be fine
Do you get a bit bemused when some people say you can't develop players, given your experiences at the Kangaroos?
I cant develop players
Did you ever get to the point in the past few weeks where you thought this is all too hard?
No not while there are paying me
Barry Mitchell presented to the board for your job. Do you still want him there next year?
Yeh Right – enjoy signing the dole checks Barry
But he sought your job?
Boring shit had no chance
Would you like to think you had the final say in the shape of your football department?
Don’t care any more I’m here for the money , Not an ounce of dignity left in me.
Did you see it as your role to get the place back together?
That’s Sticks job
Will you try to mend your relationship with Sticks Kernahan
No do you thin I would be talking to you if I wanted to be friends with Sticks
Would you like to have Stephen Silvagni on board?
He might make me look good- Just using his name saved my bacon
Do you think that what you achieved this year was overshadowed by finishing 16th?
I think we achieved nothing
What would you do if other clubs came knocking?
Tell them to show me the money
Will you change your coaching style now?
Coaching style and Pagan are two words that are miles apart.
What's been the public reaction?
they hate me
Plenty of ex-Carlton players felt strongly enough about you being sacked that they would have funded it. What do you say to your detractors?
Ner Ner Ner Ner
Do you want Michael Gardiner?
yes.
Are you interested in Michael?
yes
Was it difficult to turn up today?
No it was pay day
What about the fact two of your allies were sacked?
I feel for them but tough titties I’m still in a job
How will you handle all the pressure on you next year?
Just sit back and count the money

When it comes to footy politics Denis is up there with the best of them.
I admire him through a lot of this. He has maintained his dignity when nearly everyone else at Carlton has had their pants pulled down but dignity isnt enough.
Changes needed to be made at Carlton in 2002 but a divide and conquer mentality can only cure so many problems. Now it is creating as many as it solved.

If anyone at Carlton believes articles like this solve anything, they are badly mistaken.
Mind you, Hutchy was an interesting choice.
He was pushing a pro Pagan agenda harder than Brown was pushing anti Pagan 10 days ago.

How stimulating, Denis must be pissing himself laughing at Hutchisons ineptitude. Hutchy asked about 24 questions and got 24 cliche's in return.

It is a distraction from the farcical situation happening at Carlton.
Why doesnt someone actually supply some REAL ANSWERS?
How can a coach have a fractured relationship with the board, fractured relationship with the club footy powerbroker and irrepairable relationship with the surviving assistant coach and still believe he can do his job?
Yet decisions need to be made on injury management, team direction and list composition.
Who is making those decisions? Where is the accountability?

A 20 million dollar organisation acting with the professionalism of a stall holder at trash and treasure.
Yes folks, be confident that your hard earned is being well handled by the most inept bunch of has beens and never wasbeens in the AFL.
Welcome to Carlton 2006. :(

The writing certainly seems on the wall for Mitch, which is a shame. It seems that he has been made the scapegoat. There's not an assistant coach in the league that doesn't have aspirations to be a head coach. He was asked to make a presentation to the board and he did! If Denis can't work with Barry, then how can he possibly work with the majority of the Board.

Barry Mitchel got him self into this mess. He played all his cards but was trumped at the end by a board that felt it did not have to bow with those former players with cash.

Barry Mitchel played hard ball and got players on his side playiong mr nice guy.

and another thing, i spoke to a young player on the weekend. I can tell you know the younger blokes love Denis the players that cant stand him are-

Prenda
Teague
Chambers
Skinny
Livo
Sporn

can anyone draw parallels why?????

This player i spoke to said that each player is quick to blaim Denis for there form and the unrest caused when infact they dont deserve it. Actually calling Chambers a little bitch amongst the group

I have to say this kid drafted from WA has future leader written all over him.

I dont know about drawing parallels but I'm happy to draw conclusions.
I'd suggest your post is nonsense. What opportunity do these players have to defend their character?
Some of these people mentioned are fantastic role models to the younger players and you've just laid the boots into them.
All your posts to date have either slandered certain players or bagged Mitchell.

At least one of those players mentioned is a supporter of Denis and is happy to tell anyone who'll listen.
Conversely, I know of at least 2 youngsters at the club who would love to see the back of him.
But according to you, all the young blokes love him. :?

Next.

Let me get this straight - you think a future leader is a player who tells a nuff nuff like yourself that another player is a "little bitch"...

What language was that actually written in?

Essendon* should have sacked Sheedy years ago as Derek Kickett and Glen Manton didn't like him very much. :garthp:

BV very well put. IMHO the following needs to occur in order for our club to take steps forward:

1. The construct of the board needs to change. Half to three quarter of the current representation needs to go. I'm not necessarily sold on a Fraser Brown ticket being the answer.

2. We need a top shelf football administrator/manager pronto

3. Pagan needs to go

4. Mitchell needs to go

5. Liberatore needs to go
